Russian Emigration Following The 2022 Invasion Of Ukraine
Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than 300,000 Russian citizens and residents are estimated to have left Russia by mid-March 2022, at least 500,000 by the end of August 2022, and an additional 400,000 by early October, for a total of approximately 900,000. This number includes economic migrants, conscientious objectors, and some political refugees. Reasons for exodus There have been at least three waves of Russian emigration. First wave In the first wave, immediately after Russia invaded Ukraine, journalists, politicians, and tech workers fled. The first wave's reasons for leaving Russia include, but are not limited to, a desire to evade criminal prosecution for exercising free speech regarding the invasion. 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
On 24 February 2022, in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides. It has caused Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. An estimated 8 million Ukrainians were displaced within their country by late May and 7.8 million fled the country by 8 November 2022, while Russia, within five weeks of the invasion, experienced its greatest emigration since the 1917 October Revolution. Olga Vyacheslavovna Smirnova (; born 6 November 1991) is a Russian ballet dancer. Formerly a prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet, she is currently a prima ballerina with the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She has danced at venues across Europe, as well as appearing in Beijing, China and Japan.
