The Roman Catholic Diocese of Armidale is a suffragan Latin Rite diocese of the Archdiocese of Sydney, established in 1869 and covering the New England and Barwon River regions of New South Wales in Australia. Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Cathedral is the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Armidale, presently vacant after the Most Reverend Michael Kennedy was appointed to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. Dr Patrick J. O'Connor DD (1848 – 15 July 1932) was an Irish-born Roman Catholic Bishop of Armidale, in the Sydney Diocese, New South Wales, Australia. His only brother David O'Connor also became a priest. An uncle, Fr. Joseph Meany, was a priest in Blackburn, England. Patrick Joseph O'Connor born at Clonea, County Waterford on 25 December 1848. John Steven Satterthwaite (11 August 1928 – 23 April 2016) was an Australian bishop in the Catholic Church. Born in Sydney and educated at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill, he graduated in engineering at Sydney University while residing at St John's College. He worked as a junior engineer at Australian Iron and Steel, Port Kembla. Jeremiah Joseph Doyle (5 December 1849 – 1909), was an Irish born Catholic bishop, the bishop of Grafton. Doyle was born at Kilmurry, County Cork, Ireland. He was the son of Daniel Doyle and his wife Ellen (''née'' Murphy). He was educated in classics at Mount Melleray College, Waterford, and in 1868 he entered All Hallows College, Dublin. Doyle was ordained a priest on 24 June 1874 for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. Doyle was consecrated first Bishop of Grafton (now Lismore) by Cardinal Patrick Francis Moran in St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, on 28 August 1887. Sir James Darcy Freeman (19 November 1907 – 16 March 1991) was an Australian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.
