Republic Of China Air Force Academy
The Republic of China Air Force Academy (CAFA; ) is the service academy for the air force of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and is located in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History Mainland China The Republic of China Air Force Academy was initially established in 1928 in Nanjing as the Central Army Academy's Aviation Corps, then reorganized as the Central Army Academy's Aviation Class in 1929. In 1931, it was moved from Dajiaochang Airport to Jianqiao Airport in Jianggan, Hangzhou, Zhejiang. A year later in 1932, the name was changed to Central Aviation School. And in 1938, it was finally changed to Air Force Academy. During the War of Resistance-WWII, following the Battle of Shanghai and the Battle of Nanjing, the Air Force Academy was relocated to the Kunming Wujiaba airbase Taiwan After the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the academy was stationed in Gangshan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Jianqiao Airport
Hangzhou Jianqiao Airport (), formerly romanized as Chien Chiao, also known as Hangzhou Air Base, is a People's Liberation Army Air Force Base and a former civil airport serving Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province, China. It is located in the town of Jianqiao () in Jianggan District, about 7 miles northeast of the city center. Jianqiao Airport served as Hangzhou's main airport until 29 December 2000, when all commercial flights were transferred to the newly built Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. Battle Of Nanjing
The Battle of Nanking (or Nanjing) was fought in early December 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese War between the Chinese National Revolutionary Army and the Imperial Japanese Army for control of Nanking (Nanjing), the capital of the Republic of China. Following the outbreak of war between Japan and China in July 1937, the Japanese government at first attempted to contain the fighting and sought a negotiated settlement to the war. However, after victory in the Battle of Shanghai expansionists prevailed within the Japanese military and on December 1 a campaign to capture Nanking was officially authorized. The task of occupying Nanking was given to General Iwane Matsui, the commander of Japan's Central China Area Army, who believed that the capture of Nanking would force China to surrender and thus end the war. Yue Yiqin
Yue Yiqin (or Yue Yi-chin, ; November 11, 1914 – December 3, 1937) was a flying ace of the Republic of China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. He achieved five confirmed aerial victories until his death in combat during the Battle of Nanking. Notably, his family claimed to descend from Yue Fei, a Chinese general and folk hero who had lived during the Song dynasty. Together with Gao Zhihang, Liu Cuigang and Li Guidan, Yue was considered to be one of the "Four Heroes of the Chinese Air Force". Biography Yue was born 1914 in Lushan County, Sichuan as Yue Yizhong (). Tang Fei (; born 15 March 1932) is a retired ROC Air Force general. He served as the premier of the Republic of China between May 20 and October 6, 2000, under the Chen Shui-bian government of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), even though he was a member of the Kuomintang (KMT). Shen Yi-ming
Shen Yi-ming (; 30 March 1957 – 2 January 2020) was a Taiwanese military officer who served as a Republic of China Air Force general and the Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Minister of National Defense for Policy, and Commander of the ROC Air Force. On 2 January 2020, he was killed in a military helicopter crash while on a routine mission. Education Shen was born in Shilin, Taipei, Taiwan in 1957, with an ancestral home in Yixing, Wuxi, Jiangsu. Hsi-Chun Mike Hua
Hsi-Chun "Mike" Hua (Chinese: 華錫鈞) was a Republic of China Air Force pilot who played a leading role in the development of the Air Force and of aeronautics in Taiwan. He was known in Taiwan as "the father of the Indigenous Defense Fighter". Born on December 6, 1925, in Wuxi, China, after immigrating to Taiwan he graduated from the Republic of China Air Force Academy and qualified to fly the F-86 Sabre. He then attended the US Air Force Lockheed U-2 pilot training academy. On August 3, 1959, during his seventh U-2 training flight, Hua was the hero of a famous aviation incident. Gao Youxin
Gao , or Gawgaw/Kawkaw, is a city in Mali and the capital of the Gao Region. The city is located on the River Niger, east-southeast of Timbuktu on the left bank at the junction with the Tilemsi valley. For much of its history Gao was an important commercial centre involved in the trans-Saharan trade. In the 9th century external Arabic writers described Gao as an important regional power, and by the end of the 10th century, the local ruler was said to be a Muslim. Feng Shih-kuan
Feng Shih-kuan (; born 25 November 1945) is a Taiwanese politician. He served in the Republic of China Air Force from 1967 to 2006, retiring with the rank of General before assuming the post of Minister of National Defense in 2016. Feng stepped down in 2018, and was succeeded by Yen Teh-fa. Education Feng completed his Chinese Air Preparatory School of the Ministry of National Defense in 1963.
