The Representative Central Band of the Polish Armed Forces ( Polish: Orkiestra Reprezentacyjna Wojska Polskiego) is a military music unit that provides musical accompaniment for official state ceremonies in the Republic of Poland. The musicians of the band are required to play ceremonial music for visiting heads of state as well as perform during national events. Since the establishment of the Third Republic in 1989, the band has become chief among its other counterparts, including the Warsaw Capital Garrison Band and the Representative Band of the Polish Land Forces. It is currently attached to the 1st Guards Battalion, Representative Honor Guard Regiment (the honor guard unit of the armed forces). Poland Is Not Yet Lost
( "Dąbrowski's Mazurka"), in English officially known by its incipit Poland Is Not Yet Lost, is the national anthem of the Republic of Poland. The original lyrics were written by Józef Wybicki in Reggio Emilia, in Northern Italy, between 16 and 19 July 1797, two years after the Third Partition of Poland erased the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth from the map. Its initial purpose was to raise the morale of Jan Henryk Dąbrowski's Polish Legions that served with Napoleon Bonaparte in the Italian campaigns of the French Revolutionary Wars. "Dąbrowski's Mazurka" expressed the idea that the nation of Poland, despite lacking an independent state of their own, had not disappeared as long as the Polish people endured and fought in its name. Armed Forces Day, known also as the Feast of the Polish Armed Forces ( pl, Święto Wojska Polskiego), is a national holiday celebrated annually on 15 August in Poland, commemorating the anniversary of the 1920 victory over Soviet Russia at the Battle of Warsaw during the Polish–Soviet War. Armed Forces Day is held in conjunction with the Day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, itself a separate public holiday. Warszawianka (1831)
"Warszawianka 1831 roku", "La Varsovienne" ("The Varsovian 1831") is a Polish patriotic song written by Casimir François Delavigne with music by Karol Kurpiński. History The song was written in support of the November Uprising of 1830–1831. The French poet Casimir Delavigne was fascinated and inspired by the news of the uprising making its way to Paris and wrote the words, which were translated into Polish by the historian, journalist, and poet (great-uncle of novelist Henryk Sienkiewicz). It contains several stylistic allusions to "La Marseillaise" in the lyrics e.g. ''Aux armes, citoyens'' (in "La Varsovienne": ''Polonais, à la baïonnette''). Marsz Generalski (English: The General's March) is a notable Polish patriotic march and the official parade tune of the Polish Armed Forces and the Polish Police. It was composed in 1919 by Henryk Melcer-Szczawiński and was selected in a competition to be the representative military slow march. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ( pl, Grób Nieznanego Żołnierza) is a monument in Warsaw, Poland, dedicated to the unknown soldiers who have given their lives for Poland. It is one of many such national tombs of unknowns that were erected after World War I, and the most important such monument in Poland. The monument, located at Piłsudski Square, is the only surviving part of the Saxon Palace that occupied the spot until World War II.
