The Río Grande de Jayuya is a river of Jayuya and Utuado, Puerto Rico. It is a tributary to the Río Grande de Arecibo river. History This was the favorite river and playtime spot of Griselio Torresola as a child. In his later life, Griselio became a Puerto Rican nationalist and was one of the would-be assassins of U.S. President Harry S. Truman in 1950. The ''Río Grande de Arecibo'' (also gazetted as Arecibo River in English) is a river of Puerto Rico. The headwaters lie in the mountains to the south of Adjuntas. From there it flows north until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean near Arecibo. The tributaries lie along the side of the Cerro de Punta and the Utuado pluton. Griselio Torresola
Griselio Torresola Roura (July 19, 1925 – November 1, 1950) was a Puerto Rican militant of the Nationalist Party. He and Oscar Collazo attempted to assassinate United States President Harry Truman on November 1, 1950. Torresola mortally wounded White House policeman Private Leslie Coffelt and wounded two other law enforcement officers. Torresola was killed by a return shot from Coffelt. Early life and political background Torresola was born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico. His family believed in the Puerto Rican independence cause. They had participated in many of the island's past revolts. At the age of 23 Torresola moved to New York City in August 1948 to gain work. He was employed by a New York stationery and perfume store. Affected by a separation from his first wife, he lost his job.
