Russell's Barbecue is a barbecue restaurant in Elmwood Park, Illinois. It was established in 1930 and is the oldest continuously operating barbecue restaurant in Chicago. History The restaurant was founded in 1930. Jacob and Fannie Bernstein purchased the restaurant from its original owners in 1940, and sold it in 1980. It was originally located on North Avenue (Chicago), North Avenue, but was moved to Thatcher Avenue in the 1940s. As of 1988, it had two additional locations in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Rolling Meadows, Illinois. It originally had a limited menu including hamburgers, Ribs (food), ribs, barbecue chicken and sandwiches. The restaurant was established before the proliferation of smoked, Chicago-style barbecue, South Side-style barbecue. Smoked meats were eventually added to the menu in 2011. Elmwood Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,521 at the 2020 census. The community has long maintained a large Italian American population, with a more recent influx of Hispanic and Latino Americans. History Elmwood Park was incorporated as a village in early April 1914 in order to prevent annexation by the greater city of Chicago. Today one can still see evidence of a minority of landowners, or share farmers who voted for annexation to the city in 1915 by the odd chunk taken out of Elmwood Park's northeast corner, which kept the community from achieving a full square rectangular border. Glen Ellyn, Illinois
Glen Ellyn is a village in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. A suburb located due west of downtown Chicago, the village has a population of 28,846 as of the 2020 Census. History Glen Ellyn, like the neighboring town to the east, Lombard, had its genesis in an 1833 claim by two brothers from the Finger Lakes region of New York, Morgan and Ralph Babcock. The two claimed property in a large stand of timber near present-day St. Charles Road and the East Branch of the DuPage River. The brothers also arranged for a claim for their New York neighbor Deacon Winslow Churchill, who arrived in 1834 along with some of his adult children and their families. The nascent settlement became known as Babcock's Grove, and it included property currently part of both Glen Ellyn and Lombard. Rolling Meadows is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb of Chicago. Per the 2020 census, the population was 24,200. History In 1836, Orrin Ford became the first landowner in the area that is now Rolling Meadows, staking his claim of in an area known as Plum Grove. Other farm families followed, many traveling from Vermont. By the early 1840s, settlers had built a dam across Salt Creek and had laid claim to the entire Plum Grove area. The community became part of the newly formed Palatine Township in 1850 as German immigrants arrived. In 1862, the Salem Evangelical Church was built, and the church's cemetery still exists at the corner of Kirchoff and Plum Grove roads. In 1927, H.D.
