The Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española (; ), known as Radiotelevisión Española (''Spanish Radio and Television'', RTVE), is the Spanish national public Broadcasting, television and radio broadcaster. It is a state-owned enterprise formed in 2007 to succeed the ''Ente Público Radiotelevisión Española'' (RTVE Public Entity). It provides multi-station television (Televisión Española) and radio services (Radio Nacional de España), as well as online and streaming services (RTVE Play). Since the entry into force of the RTVE Financing Act of 2009, RTVE is primarily funded by a combination of subsidies from the General State Budget and a fee levied on the private agents' gross revenue (3.0% for private free-to-air channels, a 1.5% for private subscription channels and a 0.9% for telecom companies). RTVE Play (often stylized as rtve play) is the over-the-top media service provided by the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE. It was launched in Spain on 22 June 2021, replacing the old catalogue 'RTVE a la carta', created in turn in 2008. History The original online platform offering RTVE content was created in 2008 under the name ''RTVE a la carta'' or simply ''A la carta'' or ''alacarta''. In late 2020, RTVE announced its intention to merge its ''A la carta'' service together with the embedded Playz streaming platform specifically dedicated to a young audience. José Pablo López Sánchez (born 15 May 1977) is a Spanish media executive. He has served as Chair of RTVE since 2 December 2024. Previously, he was content manager of RTVE from 2022 to 2024 and director-general of Radio Televisión Madrid (RTVM), the Madrid's regional public broadcasting network, from 2017 to 2021.
