Roy Roper
Roy Alfred Roper (11 August 1923 – 14 September 2023) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A Rugby union positions#Three-quarters, three-quarter, Roper represented Taranaki Rugby Football Union, Taranaki at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, from 1949 to 1950. He played five matches for the All Blacks, all of them internationals. He later served as treasurer of the Taranaki Rugby Football Union from 1952 to 1971. During World War II, Roper served overseas with the Royal New Zealand Navy and appeared in six matches for the New Zealand Services XV in England. With the death of Ron Elvidge in 2019, Roper became the oldest living All Black. He celebrated his 100th birthday on 11 August 2023, becoming the first former All Black to reach that milestone. Ōwhango
Ōwhango is a small town in New Zealand situated about south of Taumarunui on New Zealand State Highway 4, State Highway 4 (SH4), and about west of the Whakapapa River, a tributary of the nascent Whanganui River. Ōwhango has been the New Zealand place names#Post-colonial recognition, official name since 16 July 2020. It is a Māori people, Māori name that translates as "the place of wheezy noises". The village features a backdrop of native forest and Mount Ruapehu, with native birds like tūī and kererū. The domain, set amongst native forest, includes large open playing fields, children's play area and two tennis courts. Bill McCaw
William Alexander McCaw (26 August 1927 – 6 May 2025) was a New Zealand international rugby union player. He was a member of the All Blacks in 1951 and in 1953–54, playing in the number 8 and flanker positions.Palenski, Ron (2007) ''The All Blackography'', Hodder Moa, p. 287. Early life McCaw was born in Gore and educated at St. Kevin's College, Oamaru where he played rugby for the school. Senior rugby McCaw played for the Marist club and represented Southland from 1949 until 1955. He played for the South Island team in the years 1950–54 and was a New Zealand trialist in 1950, 1951 and 1953 and 1957. He played in a New Zealand XV in 1952 and 1954–55.
