Florica Lavric
Florica Lavric (7 January 1962 in Romania, 1962 – 20 June 2014 in Romania, 2014) was a Romanian rower. Competing in coxed fours she won an Olympic gold medal in 1984 and world championship silver medals in 1983 and 1985. In 1987 she contracted meningitis and retired from competitions. 1984 Summer Olympics
The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. These were the first Summer Olympic Games under the IOC presidency of Juan Antonio Samaranch. The 1984 Games were boycotted by a total of fourteen Eastern Bloc countries, including the Soviet Union and East Germany, in response to the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan; Romania and Yugoslavia were the only Socialist European states that opted to attend the Games. Patricia Maria Spratlen-Etem (born March 14, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio) is an American former competitive rower. She rowed at the University of California, Berkeley. Early rowing career Spratlen-Etem began her rowing career when she joined the team at UC Berkeley. She excelled and qualified for the Olympic Games twice. In 1977 she became the stroke of the varsity eight and was a vital part winning titles at the Bay Area Rowing Festival, the Western Collegiate, the NWRA Regional, and Pacific Coast Championships. She took home a gold medal in Switzerland at the Lucerne International Regatta and in the 1979, 1981, and 1983 World Rowing Championships, she took home a bronze and two silver medals. Abigail Knickerbocker Peck (born October 6, 1956) is an American rower. She competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Olympics. Abby Peck was born Abigail Knickerbocker Peck and is the daughter of James and Rosamond Peck. Peck graduated from Skidmore College, with an art degree in 1978. She began rowing in college and later became a US National Team member from 1980 through 1988. Peck competed at the 1984 Olympics in quad sculls, and at the 1988 Olympics in the eight. She rowed at five World Championships (1982–83, 1985–87), winning a silver medal in the eight in 1987. She also competed at the 1986 Goodwill Games, winning silvers in both the quad sculls and the eights.
