Rowing At The 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's Coxed Pair
The men's coxed pair event was a Rowing (sport), rowing event conducted as part of the Rowing at the 1964 Summer Olympics, 1964 Summer Olympics programme. It was held from 11 to 15 October. There were 16 boats (48 competitors) from 16 nations, with each nation limited to a single boat in the event. The event was won by American crew Edward Ferry, Conn Findlay, and coxswain Kent Mitchell. Findlay had been on the United States gold medal crew in 1956 and bronze medal crew in 1960; he was the first man to earn two gold medals in the event, as well as the first man to win three medals of any color in the event. Mitchell had also been on the 1960 crew, and was the seventh man to earn multiple medals in the coxed pair. Jacques Morel (rower), Jacques Morel, Georges Morel, and cox Jean-Claude Darouy took silver to earn France's first medal in the event since 1952 (the last time a French team had competed). Toda Rowing Course
The is a purpose-built rowing venue that hosted the Rowing at the 1964 Summer Olympics, rowing event at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Originally completed in 1939 for the 1940 Summer Olympics that were cancelled due to World War II. After World War II, the venue was left in disrepair. When Tokyo was awarded the 1964 Summer Olympics in 1958, the venue was expanded and reconstructed. For the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games held in July and August 2021 respectively, rowing events were held at the newly constructed Sea Forest Waterway venue. Location and Facilities The course is located on an embankment of the Arakawa River (Kanto), Arakawa River in Saitama Prefecture just north of Tokyo. Access for boat crews to the nearby Arakawa River as an alternative training venue is facilitated by a series of broad steps over the river embankments. Jan Justus "Jan-Just" Bos (28 July 1939 – 24 March 2003) was a Dutch botanist, television presenter, and rower who competed in the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics.
