The 11 competitors were divided into two heats for the first round, with 5 boats in one heat and 6 in the other. The winner of each heat advanced directly to the "A" final (1st through 6th place). The remaining 9 rowers were placed in the repechage. Two heats were held in the repechage, with 4 boats in one and 5 in the other. Joan Lind
Joan Louise Lind (later, Joan Van Blom; September 26, 1952 – August 28, 2015) was an American rower. Olympian She competed for United States in the 1976 Summer Olympics, held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in the Single sculls event where she finished in the silver medal position. Lind qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team but did not compete due to the U.S. Olympic Committee's boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia. She was one of 461 athletes to receive a Congressional Gold Medal many years later. She returned to the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles as part of the American quadruple sculls with Anne Marden, Lisa Rohde, Virginia Gilder and Kelly Rickon, where she picked up a second silver medal. Notre Dame Island
Notre Dame Island () is an artificial island in the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is immediately to the east of Saint Helen's Island and west of the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the city of Saint-Lambert on the south shore. Ewa Ambroziak (9 November 1950 – 26 July 2023) was a Polish rower who competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Biography Ewa Ambroziak Szczecin, Poland was born on 9 November 1950. She graduated from the Pedagogical University of Kraków. Ambroziak played in the sports club SKS . Her trainer was Ryszard Kędzierski. Ambroziak later became a gym teacher, and Master of sport who was awarded the PZTW medals. She latterly lived in the United States. She died on 26 July 2023, at the age of 72.
