Romblon (, , ), officially the Province of Romblon, is an archipelagic province of the Philippines located in the Mimaropa region. Its main components include Romblon, an archipelagic municipality of the same name that also serves as the provincial capital; Tablas, the largest island, covering nine municipalities (including Odiongan, the largest municipality in the province); Sibuyan with its three towns; as well as the smaller island municipalities of Corcuera, Banton, Concepcion, and San Jose. The province lies south of Marinduque and Quezon, east of Oriental Mindoro, north of Aklan and Capiz, and west of Masbate. According to the 2020 census, it has a total population of 308,985. Romblon was inhabited by aboriginal Filipinos prior to the arrival of the Spanish in 1569. Archaeological artifacts recovered by the National Museum in 1936 indicate that the aborigines of Romblon have a rich and advanced culture. The archipelagic municipality is the capital of the province of Romblon and the seat of its provincial government. Banton, officially the Municipality of Banton ( Bantoanon: ''Banwa it Banton'', Filipino: ''Bayan ng Banton'', formerly known as Jones), is a municipality in the province of Romblon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 5,737 people. Its territory encompasses the entire Banton Island and a few uninhabited smaller islands. The island is located in the northern portion of the province and lies in the northern portion of the Sibuyan Sea near the southern tip of Marinduque. Tablas Island
Tablas is the largest of the islands that comprise the province of Romblon in the Philippines. The name of the island is of Spanish origin. Before the colonization of the Philippines, Tablas was known as the Island of ''Osigan''. At the time of contact with Westerners, ''Osigan'' had a population of 256 people living in small villages. Wax was produced in this island. Odiongan, on the west central coast of the island, is a major port and the largest municipality of Romblon in terms of population. Romblon Provincial Board
The Romblon Provincial Board is the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial legislature) of the Philippine province of Romblon. The members are elected via plurality-at-large voting: the province is divided into two districts, one sending one member and the other sending seven members to the provincial board; the electorate votes the number of seats allocated for their district, with the candidates with the highest number of votes (first in the first district and the first seven in the second) being elected. The vice governor is the ''ex officio'' presiding officer, and only votes to break ties. The vice governor is elected via the plurality voting system throughout the province. Odiongan, officially the Municipality of Odiongan ( Asi: ''Banwa it Odiongan'', Filipino: ''Bayan ng Odiongan''), is a municipality in the province of Romblon, Philippines. Romblomanon or Bisaya/Binisaya nga Romblomanon is an Austronesian regional language spoken, along with Asi and Onhan, in the province of Romblon in the Philippines. The language is also called ''Ini'', ''Tiyad Ini'', ''Basi'', ''Niromblon'', and ''Sibuyanon''. It is a part of the Bisayan language family and is closely related to other Philippine languages. Mimaropa (officially stylized in all caps), officially the Southwestern Tagalog Region (), is an administrative region in the Philippines. The name is an acronym combination of its constituent provinces: Mindoro (divided into Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro), Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. Bantoanon or Asi is a regional Bisayan language spoken, along with Romblomanon and Onhan, in the province of Romblon, Philippines. Asi originated in the island of Banton, Romblon and spread to the neighboring islands of Sibale, Simara, and the towns of Odiongan, San Andres and Calatrava on Tablas Island. The Asi spoken in Odiongan is called Odionganon, Calatravanhon in Calatrava, Sibalenhon in Concepcion, Simaranhon in Corcuera, and Bantoanon in Banton. Ferrol, officially the Municipality of Ferrol, is a municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Romblon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 8,005 people. History Ferrol was established in 1850 as a barrio of Odiongan by the Spain, Spanish colonial authorities.
