The Roman Catholic Diocese of Canindeyú is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in the city of Katueté, in the Ecclesiastical Province of Asunción in Paraguay. History The diocese was created by Pope Francis on February 10, 2024, from territory of the Diocese of Ciudad del Este. The new diocese covers the entire civil Canindeyú Department. In the same decree which erected the diocese, the Pope named Roberto Carlos Zacarías López as the diocese's first bishop. Katueté
Katueté is a municipality of Paraguay that is located in the central area of the Department of Canindeyú. The district was created by law no. 342/94 on May 24, 1994. It is located 362 km from the capital city of Asunción, on Route 10. The name of Katueté is attributed to Dr. Alejandro Encina Marín, who on a tour with the owners of the area looking for a suitable site for the creation of an urban center, expressed upon arriving at the place in the Guaraní language "''katueté voi, ko ape oî porâta''”, to the owners' statement about the benefits of the location of that site. Adalberto Martínez Flores (born 8 July 1951) is a Paraguayan prelate of the Catholic Church who was named as the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Asunción, Archbishop of Asunción in 2022.
