Rogers' Store
Rogers' Store, also known as Gwaltney's Store, is a historic general store located at Carsley near Surry, Surry County, Virginia. It was built about 1894, and is a two-story, three bay by three bay, Late Victorian frame building with a front gable roof. It features a full-width front porch supported by turned posts and a standing seam metal shed roof. Located directly behind the Rogers' Store is the Gwaltney's Store building. It was built in 1827, and is a 1 1/2-story, two room, gable front frame building. With the construction of the new store in 1894, the old store was converted to storage space. Carsley, Virginia
Carsley is an unincorporated community in Surry County, Virginia, United States. Carsley is located at the intersection of Virginia State Routes 615 (Carsley Road), 40 and 612 (Otterdam Road) north of Waverly and Dendron. The land comprising the community is named for the Carsleys, who owned the land as early as 1812. The Carsley family is the namesake for the area, though the original land grant was given to John Parsons by the King of England on June 5, 1736. Surry (formerly Cross Roads, McIntosh's Cross Roads, McIntoshs Cross Roads, Scuffletown, Smithville, Surry Court House, and The Crossroads) is an incorporated town in Surry County, Virginia, United States. The population was 244 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Surry County. Its name is derived from the county of Surrey in England.
