Robert Lewis (director)
Robert Lewis (March 16, 1909 – November 23, 1997) was an American actor, director, teacher, author and founder of the influential Actors Studio in New York in 1947. In addition to his accomplishments on Broadway and in Hollywood, Lewis' greatest and longest lasting contribution to American theater may be the role he played as one of the foremost acting and directing teachers of his day. He was an early proponent of the Stanislavski System of acting technique and a founding member of New York's revolutionary Group Theatre (New York), Group Theatre in the 1930s. In the 1970s, he was the Head of the Yale School of Drama Acting and Directing Departments. Early years Robert (Bobby) Lewis was born in Brooklyn in 1909 to a middle-class working family. Rob Lewis is a South Australian marine scientist and retired senior civil servant. He discovered the first known upwelling system in southern Australia and was professionally involved in fisheries and aquaculture management for 38 years. He was head of South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) from 1992 to 2010. Career Lewis joined South Australia's Department of Fisheries as a research officer in 1973, where he worked in support of the rock lobster fishery. By 1987 he was working in a research management capacity, balancing fisheries, aquaculture and marine conservation interests. He joined SARDI in 1992, and was appointed Executive Director in 1993. Robert "Bobby/Bobbie" Lewis (30 November 1878 – 31 March 1947) was an Australian jockey of the late 19th century to the early 20th century. During his 46-year career span from 1892 to 1938 he won over 900 races including the Melbourne Cup on four separate occasions in 1902, 1915, 1919 & 1927. He also won eight Victoria Derby, Victoria Derbies, four Australian Derby, Australian Derbies, seven Crown Oaks and eight AJC St Leger, AJC St. Legers. Robert Lewis (born 20 November 1987) is a Welsh rugby union player. Lewis primarily played for Newport Gwent Dragons, London Welsh RFC, and Birmingham Moseley. Lewis represented Wales at grade age levels, as well as in rugby sevens. Professional career A scrum-half, he has represented Wales at U18, U19 and at U21 level, and was selected for the Wales Sevens squad in 2007, in which he competed in four tournaments, – Adelaide, Wellington, Hong Kong and San Diego. Robert Franklin Lewis (born March 20, 1945) is an American former professional basketball player. Lewis grew up in Northwest Washington, D.C., and developed many of his skills at Jelleff's Boys Club in Georgetown, under the tutelage of Joe Branzell. He attended St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C, where he played for coach Joe Gallagher. As a junior, Lewis averaged 25.4 points per game, including a season-high 40 points against the Georgetown freshman team. He was named first team All-Met. As a senior, he was named the Daily News SSA Player of the Year and First Team All-Met for the second consecutive year. He also appeared on ''The Ed Sullivan Show'' as a Parade Magazine All-American in 1963. Robert C. Lewis, Jr. (July 12, 1944 – March 23, 2021) was an American amateur golfer from Pepper Pike, Ohio. Lewis was born in Warren, Ohio. He played college golf at Rollins College, graduating in 1967. He won the 1968 Ohio Amateur on his 24th birthday. Lewis turned professional and played on the PGA Tour from 1971 to 1974 without much success. He then quit professional golf and had his amateur status reinstated. As an amateur, Lewis finished runner-up at the 1980 U.S. Amateur and the 1981 and 1984 U.S. Mid-Amateurs. He played on four straight U.S. Walker Cup teams (1981, 1983, 1985, 1987) – all winners. He played on the winning 1982 Eisenhower Trophy team and the 1986 team that finished second. Lewis captained the 2003 and 2005 Walker Cup teams. Robert S. Lewis, Jr. (October 6, 1925 – April 11, 2012) was an American college basketball player notable as a starting forward on the University of Utah's 1944 National Championship team. Early life and education Lewis was born and grew up in Salt Lake City, the son of a University of Utah professor. He and his twin brother Fred attended East High School and came to their father's university to play basketball for coach Vadal Peterson in the fall of 1943. Due to the shortage of college-aged men associated with World War II, freshmen were eligible to play varsity basketball; freshmen did not become permanently eligible until 1973. Known as the "Blitz Kids," Lewis joined classmates Arnie Ferrin, Dick Smuin, and Herb Wilkinson to become the first champions in NCAA men's basketball history to feature four freshmen in the starting lineup.
