ReykjavÃk International Film Festival
ReykjavÃk International Film Festival (RIFF; ) is an international film festival held annually in ReykjavÃk, Iceland. The festival lasts 11 days each year and emphasizes young talents. One way of doing so is having a competitive category (named ''New Visions'') exclusively limited to a director's first or second feature-length film. At each festival, a number of awards are given out. The main award is the ''Discovery of the Year'' award, also called Golden Puffin, given by an international jury. The international federation of film critics FIPRESCI send a jury to RIFF from 2006. Also, the audience can vote for their favorite film from the whole programme. Lifetime achievement awards and creative excellence awards are given to well-known film directors who have achieved excellence in their work. Amnesty International (also referred to as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization focused on human rights, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. ''Control'' is a 2007 biographical film about the life of Ian Curtis, singer of the late-1970s English post-punk band Joy Division. It is the first feature film directed by Anton Corbijn, who had worked with Joy Division as a photographer. The screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh was based on the biography ''Touching from a Distance'' by Curtis's widow Deborah, who served as a co-producer on the film. Ian Curtis
Ian Kevin Curtis (15 July 1956 – 18 May 1980) was an English singer, songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer, lyricist and occasional guitarist of the band Joy Division, with whom he released the albums ''Unknown Pleasures'' (1979) and ''Closer (Joy Division album), Closer'' (1980). He was noted for his on-stage behaviour and dancing style influenced by his experiences with epilepsy, as well as his dark baritone voice. Peter Schønau Fog (born 20 April 1971) is a Danish film director. Fog's debut feature film, '' Kunsten at græde i kor'' (English: ''The Art of Crying''), based on Erling Jepsen's novel of the same name, premiered 27 April 2007 and received critical acclaim.
