René Touzet (French Politician)
René Touzet y Monte (September 8, 1916, in Havana, Cuba – June 15, 2003, in Miami, Florida) was a Cuban composer, pianist and bandleader. Career as bandleader Growing up in the city of Cojimar, Touzet learned Classical piano in Cuba, classical piano from the age of four, and went on to study at the Falcón Conservatory in Havana. By 1934, then 18 years old, Touzet's classical training had to end due to his parents' financial hardships. However, as his jazz piano skills were, by then, clearly apparent, he accepted a job performing and playing in Luis Rivera's jazz band. Soon thereafter, he would become the leader of a 16-piece jazz orchestra, playing big band shows at the Grand Casino in Havana. He also began writing his own compositions; one of his most famous songs, "No Te Importe Saber" ('You don't care to know'), was recorded with lyrics (by Mitchell Parish) as "Let Me Love You Tonight" by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, among others. Frank Cooper (born 1938, in Atlanta, Georgia) is currently Research Professor Emeritus, Musicology, at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami (Coral Gables, Florida), since retiring from his professorship in 2013, and is internationally known as the founder of the Festival of Neglected Romantic Music. Education He studied at Florida State University with John Boda, Edward Kilenyi and Ernst von Dohnányi. Louie Louie
"Louie Louie" is a rhythm and blues song written and composed by American musician Richard Berry in 1955, recorded in 1956, and released in 1957. It is best known for the 1963 hit version by the Kingsmen and has become a Standard (music), standard in pop music, pop and rock music, rock. Richard Berry (musician)
Richard Berry Jr. (April 11, 1935 – January 23, 1997) was an American singer, songwriter and musician, who performed with many Los Angeles doo-wop and close harmony groups in the 1950s, including the Flairs and the Robins. He is best known as the composer and original performer of the rock standard "Louie Louie". The song became a hit for the Kingsmen and others, and it is one of the most recorded songs of all time; however, Berry received little financial benefit for writing it until the 1980s, having signed away his rights to the song in 1959. He also wrote and released "Have Love, Will Travel" which has been recorded by many other artists. GNP Crescendo Record Co. is an independent record label founded in 1954 by Gene Norman ''(né'' Eugene Abraham Nabatoff; 1922–2015). Gene Norman (born January 30, 1922) was a nightclub owner, music promoter, record label owner, radio disc jockey, and television host. He purchased the The Crescendo in 1954 in West Hollywood where he booked jazz artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Mathis, Duke Ellington, Peggy Lee, and comics Don Rickles, Mort Sahl, Lenny Bruce, and Bob Newhart. He recorded many live recordings at the venue and released them on his record label "Gene Norman Presents." He later expanded the label's genres to include R&B, blues, and pop music. As a disc jockey he was well known as one of the "Big 5" disc jockeys at KLAC in the 1950s as well as hosting the television show, "The Gene Norman Show." Xavier Cugat (; ; 1 January 1900 – 27 October 1990) was an American musician and bandleader who was a leading figure in the spread of Latin music. Originally from Girona, Spain, he spent his formative years in Havana, Cuba, before arriving in New York City in 1915. A trained violinist and arranger, he was the leader of the resident orchestra at the Waldorf–Astoria before and after World War II.
