Regina Nathan
Regina Nathan (born 17 August 1960) is an Irish soprano. Biography Nathan was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was raised in Dublin. She studied at St Patrick's College, Maynooth, the College of Music, Dublin (now the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama), Trinity College of Music, London and at the National Opera Studio. She represented Ireland at the 1991 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, has performed with Placido Domingo in Dublin and proclaimed as Ireland's outstanding New Entertainer of the year in 1991. She has worked with a number of orchestras including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Mark-Anthony Turnage CBE (born 10 June 1960) is a British composer of classical music. Biography Turnage was born in Corringham, Essex. He began composing at age nine and at fourteen began studying at the junior section of the Royal College of Music. His initial musical studies were with Oliver Knussen, John Lambert, and later with Gunther Schuller. He also has been strongly influenced by jazz, in particular by the work of Miles Davis, and has composed works featuring jazz performers, including John Scofield, Peter Erskine, John Patitucci, and Joe Lovano. Turnage has composed numerous orchestral and chamber works, and three full-length operas. John Buckley (composer)
John Buckley (born 19 December 1951) is an Irish composer and pedagogue, a co-founder of the Ennis Summer School and member of Aosdána. Biography John Buckley was born in Templeglantine, County Limerick. He grew up in a rural environment and was introduced to traditional music learning the button accordion from the local player Liam Moloney when he was 9 years of age. In 1969 he moved to Dublin to study for the Teacher's Diploma at St Patrick's College, Drumcondra. Here he had his first opportunity to hear live classical and modern music including contemporary and avantgarde works by Irish composers including Aloys Fleischmann, Brian Boydell, John Kinsella, and Seóirse Bodley, as well as works by international composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki. ''Faith of Our Fathers'' (subtitled ''Classic Religious Anthems of Ireland'') is a compilation album of traditional Catholic/Christian English, Irish, and Latin hymns recorded by Irish artists in 1996. The album topped the Irish Albums Chart for two months, broke release records, and was certified fifteen times-platinum. The nineteenth-century hymn "Faith of Our Fathers" is the title track. Origins The album was the idea of a broker, John Kearns, working for Hibernian Insurance. Funding included contributions from his coworkers. Several labels turned Kearns down before Lunar records agreed to produce the album. Artists The album was produced by Bill Somerville-Large and overseen by musical director John Tate. RTÉ Concert Orchestra
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is one of the two full-time professional radio orchestras in Ireland that are part of RTÉ, the national broadcasting station. Since its formation as the Radio Éireann Light Orchestra in 1948, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, has grown from a small studio-based recording group to become an active 45-strong orchestra performing over eighty concerts annually. It is part of RTÉ Performing Groups. The orchestra performs classical, popular and big band evening and lunchtime concerts, covering a range of music from baroque to contemporary.
