Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy is a premier domestic first-class cricket championship played in India and organized annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The teams representing regional and state cricket associations participate. BCCI founded the championship in 1934, Since then, it has been organised across various grounds and stadiums in India. The competition currently consists of 38 teams, including at least one team from each of the 28 States and union territories of India#States, states of India and four of the eight States and union territories of India#Union territories, union territories. 1934–35 Ranji Trophy
The 1934–35 Ranji Trophy was the inaugural edition of India's first-class cricket championship. The tournament was originally titled The Cricket Championship of India, but was renamed as the Ranji Trophy ahead of the 1935–36 edition. The first tournament ran from 4 November 1934 to 12 March 1935 and was contested in a knockout format by 15 teams divided into four zones. In the opening match, Madras cricket team, Madras defeated Mysore cricket team, Mysore by an innings and 23 runs at the Chepauk Stadium and the match ended five minutes before close of play on the first day. It remains (to 2023) the only Ranji Trophy match to be completed in a single day's play. 1935–36 Ranji Trophy
The 1935–36 Ranji Trophy was the second edition of India's first-class cricket championship. Having been called 'The Cricket Championship of India' in 1934–35, the tournament was rebranded in 1935 in honour of the late Kumar Sri Ranjitsinhji, known as Ranji. Matches were played from 4 November 1934 to 12 March 1935 and a total of 16 state and city teams participated. Of the original 15, the Army team withdrew but there were two new members with Bengal and Rajputana (now Rajasthan) making their debuts. Although the sides were divided into four zonal groups, the tournament utilised a knockout format. Bombay defeated Madras by 190 runs in the final. Rajinder Goel
Rajinder Goel (20 September 1942 – 21 June 2020) was an Indian cricketer who holds the record for most wickets in Ranji Trophy, India's premier first class competition, despite which he was never selected to play for India. A left arm spinner, he represented Patiala, Southern Punjab, Delhi and Haryana in domestic cricket. In 2016, he received the C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honour conferred by BCCI on a former player. The son of an assistant station master in the Indian Railways, Goel came up through the Vaish school and college in Rohtak. His first major success was for North Zone schools in 1957 when he took four wickets against West Zone in the final of the All-India schools tournament and was declared the best bowler of the competition. Mysore Cricket Team
Karnataka cricket team represents the Indian state of Karnataka in domestic cricket competitions. It has traditionally been one of the strongest teams in the domestic circuit and has produced many of Indian cricket team's iconic players. It was known as Mysore cricket team before the state of Mysore was officially renamed as Karnataka in 1973. Madras Cricket Team
The Tamil Nadu cricket team is a domestic cricket team run by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association representing the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It has been one of the most dominant teams in white-ball domestic cricket in India. The team plays in Ranji Trophy, the highest tier of the domestic first-class cricket tournament in India and in List A tournaments Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji
Colonel Kumar Sri Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji II, (10 September 1872 – 2 April 1933), often known as Ranji or K. S. Ranjitsinhji, was an Indian cricketer who later became ruler of his native Indian princely state of Nawanagar from 1907 to 1933. The main part of his cricket career was from 1893 to 1904 when, as one of the greatest batsmen of his time, he played for Cambridge University, Sussex, London County and, in 15 Test matches, for England. Ranjitsinhji was an unorthodox batsman whose fast reactions and individual style were to revolutionise the game. Sir Bhupinder Singh (12 October 1891 – 23 March 1938) was the Maharaja of Patiala and a cricket player. Singh's reign as Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala, in British India, lasted from 1900 to 1938. He was a member of the Phulkian dynasty. Anthony De Mello (cricket Administrator)
Anthony Stanislaus de Mello (11 October 1900 – 24 May 1961) was an Indian cricket administrator and one of the founders of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He also helped launch the Asian Games as the chairman of the organising committee for the first Asian Games in Delhi. Background Anthony de Mello was born in Karachi in a migrant Goan family. Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground
The Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground is a cricket ground located in the city of Nagpur. The ground is known as the VCA Ground and belongs to the Central Zone. The first match was played here in October 1969. As of 19 August 2017, it has hosted nine Tests and 14 ODIs.
