Rani Yan Yan (Chakma language, Chakma: π’ππ¨ π ππ΄ π ππ΄; Rakhine language, Rakhine: αααα―αα¬αΈ ααα―ααΊβααα―ααΊ, born 1984) is an Indigenous human rights defender and women's rights activist from Bangladesh, serving as the advisor to the Chakma Circle Chief.Β In 2014, she married Devasish Roy, the Chakma Circle Chief, and has since been known as Rani Yan Yan. Career As the Chakma Rani (queen) and advisor to the Chakma Circle Chief, she has effectively advocated for the appointment of more women as headmen and karbaris (traditional leaders), ensuring women's rights are upheld within the traditional system. The Chakma or Changhma people (, πππ΄π), are an ethnic group and nation native to the Indian subcontinent and Western Myanmar. They are the largest indigenous group and as well as the second largest ethnic group of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of southeastern Bangladesh. They also form the majority in Chakma Autonomous District Council of Mizoram. Significant Chakma populations are found in the northeast Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Assam and Rakhine State of Myanmar. ''Rajmata'' Benita Roy (born 18 August 1907, date of death unknown) was a Bangladeshi aristocrat, litterateur, diplomat and minister. She was the forty-ninth Rani of the Chakma Circle in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Roy served as the Rajmata during the kingship of Tridev Roy and Debashish Roy. She was a member of Bangladesh's first delegation to the UN General Assembly in 1972, and a minister in the Bangladeshi government from 1975 to 1978. Her paternal grandfather, Keshub Chandra Sen, was a Bengali Hindu reformer and Brahmo Samaj leader. Her mother's sister, Naina Devi, was a singer of Hindustani classical music.
