Randolph, Oregon
Randolph is an unincorporated community in Coos County, Oregon, United States. It is on the north bank the Coquille River about north of Bandon and about 3 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Randolph was originally located about three miles to the northwest near the current Whiskey Run Beach, where it was a "black sand" gold mining boomtown in the 1850s. Today that boomtown is a ghost town because there are no significant structures left at the site, but the community on the Coquille River has several homes and a historic cemetery. History The community was established during a brief gold rush in Coos County by a Doctor Foster and a Captain Harris. According to ''History of Southern Oregon'' (1884), they named the place after John Randolph of Roanoke, a Virginia politician. However, an article published by the Oregon Historical Society in 1957 suggests two other possibilities: that it was named for Randolph, Massachusetts, or for one of the founders of Port Orford, Oregon, ... Randolph Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in Bexar County, Texas, ( east-northeast of Downtown San Antonio). Opened in 1931, Randolph has been a flying training facility for the United States Army Air Corps, the United States Army Air Forces, and the Air Force during its entire existence. On 1 October 2010, Randolph AFB merged with Lackland Air Force Base and the US Army's Fort Sam Houston to form Joint Base San Antonio. Etymology Randolph AFB was named after Captain William Millican Randolph, a native of Austin, who was on the base naming committee at the time of his death in a crash. The Village of Randolph lies to the southeast of the town and only a tiny portion of the village is within the town. The unincorporated community of East Friesland is located in the town. Randolph is a village in Columbia and Dodge counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,796 at the 2020 census. Of this, 1,338 were in Dodge County, and 458 were in Columbia County. The village is located at the southeast corner of the Town of Randolph in Columbia County, although only a tiny portion of the village lies within the town. Most of the village lies within the Town of Westford in Dodge County. Small portions also lie within the Town of Fox Lake (also in Dodge County) to the north and the Town of Courtland in Columbia County. The Dodge County portion of Randolph is part of the Beaver Dam Micropolitan Area, while the Columbia County portion is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. The neighborhood is named in honor of Virginia E. Randolph, a former African-American educator in Henrico County, Virginia during the 19th century. Randolph is the primary village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Randolph, Orange County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 2,083, out of 4,774 in the entire town of Randolph. The CDP is in southwestern Orange County, in the southwestern corner of the town of Randolph. It is bordered to the east by the Third Branch of the White River and its tributary Ayers Brook, all part of the Connecticut River watershed. Vermont Route 12 passes through the center of the village as its Main Street, leading north through Brookfield Gulf to Northfield and south to Bethel.
