Racquetball At The 2019 Pan American Games – Men's Singles
The men's singles racquetball competition at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru was held between August 2 and 7, 2019 at the Racquetball courts located at the Villa Deportiva Regional del Callao cluster. Rodrigo Montoya of Mexico won gold by defeating team-mate Álvaro Beltrán in the final. This was the 1st gold medal in Men's Singles for a Mexican player in Racquetball at the Pan American Games. USA players had won gold at all previous Pan American Games, but in 2019 no USA players made the podium. Schedule All times are Central Standard Time (UTC−6). Group stage The competition begins with a round-robin tournament, round robin with athletes divided into groups. The top two athletes in each group advanced to the medal round. Groups was announced at the technical meeting the day before the competition begins. Rodrigo Montoya
Rodrigo Montoya (born June 4, 1996) is a Mexican racquetball player. He is the current International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in both the Men's Team competition and Mixed Doubles (with Samantha Salas), winning those titles at the 2022 Racquetball World Championships, 2022 Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. That was his 4th IRF World Championship, as he won the 2018 Racquetball World Championships – Men's singles, 2018 Men's Singles in Costa Rica and the 2021 Racquetball World Championships – Men's Doubles, 2021 Men's Doubles with Javier Mar in Guatemala City, so Montoya is the first player to win singles, doubles and mixed doubles at Worlds. Andrés Acuña
Andrés Acuña (born September 11, 1995) is a Costa Rican racquetball player. He is the current World Games champion in racquetball, winning gold at the 2022 World Games, in Birmingham, Alabama. Acuña is a former Pan American Champion in Men's Doubles (with Gabriel Garcia), winning the title in 2024 in Guatemala City. He was runner up at the 2021 International Racquetball Federation (IRF 2021 Racquetball World Championships - Men's Singles, 2021 World Championships in Men's Singles in Guatemala. Charles Pratt (racquetball)
Charles Pratt (October 2, 1830 – May 4, 1891) was an American businessman. Pratt was a pioneer of the U.S. petroleum industry, and he established his kerosene refinery Astral Oil Works in Brooklyn, New York. He then lived with his growing family in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. He recruited Henry H. Rogers into his business, forming Charles Pratt and Company in 1867. Seven years later, Pratt and Rogers agreed to join John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil. An advocate of education, Pratt founded and endowed the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, now a renowned art college. He and his children built country estates in Glen Cove, New York, which became known as the Gold Coast in the 1920s on the North Shore of Long Island. Samuel Murray (born June 4, 1993) is a Canadian racquetball player. He is the currenInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title with Coby Iwaasa in 2024. Previously, Murray was the 2022 Pan American Champion in Men's Doubles (with Iwaasa). He has won twice on the International Racquetball Tour, and is only the second Canadian to win on the IRT (after Kane Waselenchuk), and been ranked as high as #3. Sebastian Franco (born February 5, 1993) is a Colombian racquetball player. Franco is a formeInternational Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title in 2014 with Alejandro Herrera. Jake Bredenbeck (born September 27, 1991) is an American racquetball player. Bredenbeck was part of Team USA that won gold at the 2024 Racquetball World Championships in San Antonio, Texas. He's a four time USA Racquetball (USAR) National Champion: three times in Men's Singles and once in Men's Doubles. He's also won on the International Racquetball Tour. Junior and college years Bredenbeck played extensively as a junior and with some success. In 2004, he won Boys U12 Doubles with Taylor Knoth, who he would play doubles with throughout his junior years. They repeated as champions in 2006, when they won Boys U14.
