Rabigh
Rabigh () is a city and governorate in the Province of Makkah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, situated on the coast of the Red Sea, around northwest of Mecca in the historic Hejazi region. The city had an estimated population of 180,352 in 2014 and is situated at an elevation of above sea level, close to the border with the Madinah Province. The city dates back to the era before the advent of Islam in the 7th century C.E., and up to the 17th century, was known as ''Al-Juhfah'', or ''Al-Johfah'' (). Due to the strategic location of Rabigh on the Red Sea, it has been the site of several high-profile projects such as the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Petro Rabigh and King Abdullah Economic City. King Abdullah Economic City
King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC, ; ) is a planned city in Rabigh Governorate, Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia. It was announced as a megaproject in 2005 by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. It is located in close proximity to Thuwal, almost 100 km (62 mi) north of Jeddah. It was one of six megaprojects that were announced in 2005 and is the only one that was launched. By 2018, ''The Financial Times'' wrote that the city had not attracted investment or become a hub for logistics and manufacturing, contrary to the grand plans behind the project. Umrah
The Umrah () is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims, located in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia. It can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the '' Ḥajj'' (; "pilgrimage"), which has specific dates according to the Islamic lunar calendar. Miqat
The miqat () is a principal boundary at which Muslim pilgrims intending to perform the '' Ḥajj'' or ʿUmrah must enter the state of '' iḥrām'' (lit. 'prohibition'), a state of consecration in which certain permitted activities are made prohibited. There are five ''mawāqīt'' (). Four of these were defined by the Islamic prophet Muhammad. One was defined by the second Rashidun caliph, Umar ibn Al-Khattab, to fulfill the needs of pilgrims from the newly annexed regions in Mesopotamia and Persia.
