Queensland Railways Steel Carriage Stock
The Queensland Railways ordered two different types of steel bodied air-conditioned carriage stock, both built by Commonwealth Engineering at their Rocklea plant. Over the years these carriages have been used on many different long distance Queensland Rail services. All Queensland Rail Travel (formerly "Traveltrain") services are now operated only with L Series carriages. M Series Carriage Stock In January 1950, Queensland Railways awarded a contract for 99 steel bodied carriages to Commonwealth Engineering, Rocklea. These were purchased to operate the ''Lander'' series of trains, '' The Inlander'', '' The Midlander'', ''The Sunlander'' and '' The Westlander'' entering service between 1953 and 1955. The Tablelands railway line is a railway line in North Queensland, Australia. It was opened in a series of sections between 1887 and 1916. It commences at Cairns and at its maximum extent, reached Ravenshoe at the southern end of the Atherton Tableland. The Spirit of the Outback is a long-distance passenger rail service in Queensland, Australia, operated by Queensland Rail's Traveltrain division. Route Debuting in November 1993 by combining the former '' Capricornian'' and '' Midlander'' trains, this 1,325 km rail journey operates between Brisbane and Longreach. The ''Spirit of the Outback'' travels along the east coast of Queensland, from Brisbane to Rockhampton, where it heads west through Blackwater, Emerald and Barcaldine, to Longreach. Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway
The Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway is located near Ipswich, Queensland, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia and runs through the former West Moreton pioneering coal fields. It was first opened in 1881 by colliery proprietor and politician Lewis Thomas (politician), Lewis Thomas (1832-1913) as a tramway to his coal mines. Commonwealth Engineering, often shortened to Com-Eng, later known as Comeng was an Australian engineering company that designed and built railway locomotives, rolling stock and trams. History Smith and Waddington, the predecessor to Commonwealth Engineering, was founded in 1921, in the Sydney suburb of Camperdown, as a body builder for custom motor cars. It went bankrupt in the Great Depression, and was reformed as Waddingtons Body Works and the main factory was moved to Granville, after a fire in the main workshop. The Government of Australia took control of the company during World War II as the company was in serious financial difficulties but had many government orders in its books. The DownsSteam Tourist Railway & Museum was founded in 2001 in the Toowoomba suburb of Drayton in Queensland. It operates under the auspices of the ''Great Divide Scenic Railway''. The station building on the complex was originally situated at Yuleba, between Roma and Miles servicing the town of Yuleba from 1879 to 2008. The building was purchased by the Museum after it was replaced by the present-day Yuleba Railway Station in 2008.
