Queensland Music Awards
The Queensland Music Awards (commonly known as QMA and known as the Q Song Awards from 2006 to 2010) are annual awards celebrating Queensland's emerging artists. They commenced in 2006. Christopher James Pickering is an Australian alternative country singer, songwriter and guitarist based in Melbourne, Australia. Life Pickering was born and grew up in the town of Warwick, about south-west of Brisbane. Until June 2004, Chris drummed and sang for the Boat People. Steve Balbi
Stephen Vert Balbi (born 3 October 1964) is an Australian musician and record producer. He was the founding bass guitarist in pub rockers, Noiseworks in 1986 and formed a psychedelic pop group and production duo, Electric Hippies in 1993 with fellow Noiseworks member, Justin Stanley. He joined Mi-Sex in 2011. Balbi issued his debut solo album, ''Black Rainbow'', in October 2013. Andrew Morris (musician)
Andrew Morris is a musician from Brisbane, Queensland. He is a former member of Palladium and is part of The Wilson Pickers, performs in a duo with Danny Widdicombe and has a solo career. In 2008 he won (with Widdicombe) the Grant McLennan Memorial Scholarship. Robert Forster (musician)
Robert Derwent Garth Forster (born 29 June 1957) is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and music critic. In December 1977 he co-founded an indie rock group, the Go-Betweens, with fellow musician Grant McLennan. In 1980, Lindy Morrison joined the group on drums and backing vocals, and by 1981 Forster and Morrison were also lovers. In 1988, "Streets of Your Town", co-written by McLennan and Forster, became the band's highest-charting hit in both Australia and the United Kingdom. The follow-up single, "Was There Anything I Could Do?", was a number-16 hit on the ''Billboard'' Alternative Songs, Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States. In December 1989, after recording six albums, the Go-Betweens disbanded. Forster and Morrison had separated as a couple earlier, and Forster began his solo music career from 1990. Bernard Fanning
Bernard Joseph Fanning (born 15 August 1969) is an Australian musician and singer-songwriter. He was the lead vocalist of Queensland alternative rock band Powderfinger from its formation in 1989. Born and raised in Toowong, Brisbane, Fanning received piano lessons from his mother at an early age. At the age of 15, while he attended St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, he began writing music. Upon graduating from Gregory Terrace, Fanning moved on to the University of Queensland, where he studied journalism briefly. He dropped out to pursue a music career, after meeting Ian Haug in an economics class. Keir Francis Nuttall (born 1974) is a Brisbane-based guitarist-singer-songwriter. He is a founding mainstay member of the rock trio, Transport, which formed in 2001. He married Australian singer-songwriter and actor, Kate Miller-Heidke, in 2007. Since 2004 he has performed and recorded in her backing band. Nuttall's songs have been recorded by Miller-Heidke, including her singles, " Space They Cannot Touch" (March 2008), "Words" and other tracks on her debut album, '' Little Eve'' (both 2007). Tivoli Theatre, Brisbane
The Tivoli Theatre is a former theatre in Brisbane. It operated between 1914 until its closure in 1965 and demolition in 1969. It was situated opposite the Brisbane City Hall, in the site of the present King George Square. Construction The Tivoli Theatre's construction began in Albert Street, Brisbane in 1914, on the site of the former Turkish baths. It was designed by architect Henry E. White in an Art Nouveau style and could house 1800 people on three levels. It was chilled by an air plant that could pump ice-cold air through the venue. It had ruby red carpets. It also featured a garden rooftop theatre holding 1200 with open sides for ventilation and steel shutters which could keep out rain. Its facade overlooking Albert Square had Oriental influences. Danny Widdicombe
Daniel Marsden "Danny" Widdicombe is a musician from Queensland. Career In 2008 Danny Widdicombe, on resonator guitar and vocals, formed a country blues band the Wilson Pickers alongside John Bedggood on fiddle, mandolin and backing vocals, Andrew Morris on acoustic guitar and vocals, Sime Nugent on harmonica, guitar and backing vocals and Ben Salter on banjo and vocals. He also performs in a duo with Morris and has a solo career. At 19 years old, Widdicombe was diagnosed with leukaemia. In 2011 he released a solo album, ''Find Someone'', which he completed while his leukaemia returned. In 2019, Widdicombe teamed up with instrumental jazz trio Trichotomy for album ''Between the Lines''. Trichotomy's Sean Foran is on keyboards, John Parker on drums and Samuel Vincent on double bass, while Widdicombe plays guitar, pedal steel and sings.
