Electoral District
An electoral (congressional, legislative, etc.) district, sometimes called a constituency, riding, or ward, is a geographical portion of a political unit, such as a country, state or province, city, or administrative region, created to provide the voters therein with representation in a legislature or other polity. That legislative body, the state's constitution, or a body established for that purpose determines each district's boundaries and whether each will be represented by a single member or multiple members. Generally, only voters (''constituents'') who reside within the district are permitted to vote in an election held there. Electoral District Of Bundaberg
Bundaberg is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in central Queensland, Australia. It covers the city of Bundaberg, as well as the immediate surrounding area. History The electoral district of Bundaberg was created by the ''Electoral Districts Act of 1887'' which abolished the electoral district of Mulgrave that had included the Bundaberg area. The first election held in the seat of Bundaberg was the 1888 election. The city's urban population has long made the seat a Labor stronghold; it was in Labor hands for all but a few years from 1892 to 2006, even during the height of Joh Bjelke-Petersen's popularity. This changed in 2005 when the practices of rogue surgeon Jayant Patel at the Bundaberg Base Hospital were uncovered. The Beattie government was seriously embarrassed by the subsequent Commissions of Inquiry into the matter, and as a result the seat fell to the Nationals. Toowoomba North is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created with the 1972 redistribution. It replaced the abolished electorate of Toowoomba West. Toowoomba North is largely based around the upper half of the city of Toowoomba. It covers the suburbs north of James Street, including Newtown, Wilsonton, Mount Lofty, etc. It also includes the urban fringe area of Blue Mountain Heights, the satellite town of Highfields and Spring Bluff. Electoral District Of Southern Downs
Southern Downs is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in 2001 as a replacement for Warwick. The district takes in the southern parts of the Darling Downs region along the New South Wales border. It includes the towns of Warwick, Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe, Millmerran and Allora. It also consists of several smaller communities such as Inglewood, Texas, Killarney, Wallangarra and Cecil Plains. The Darling Downs has traditionally been a conservative area, and Southern Downs is no exception. Condamine is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. Condamine takes in areas to the north-west, west and south of Toowoomba. It includes a number of small towns, such as Oakey, Pittsworth, Cambooya and Clifton. The district is named for the Condamine River which runs through it. Created for the 2009 state election, it was mostly made up of territory previously belonging to the abolished districts of Cunningham and Darling Downs. It also drew a small number of voters previously belonging to the district of Toowoomba South. Mirani is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It is currently represented by Glen Kelly of the Liberal National Party. It covers much of the Queensland coast between the cities of Rockhampton and Mackay, as well as the hinterland west of Mackay. Major towns within its boundaries include Sarina, Marian, Mount Morgan, and its namesake, Mirani. It also contains the outer Mackay suburbs of Bakers Creek, Ooralea, and parts of Paget. Mirani was historically a safely conservative seat, and was held by the Country Party and its successors the National Party and Liberal National Party from 1947 to 2015. Mackay is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district in North Queensland, Australia, encompassing the inner suburbs of the city of Mackay, Queensland, Mackay. Outer suburbs of the city are included in the neighbouring electorates of Electoral district of Mirani, Mirani and Electoral district of Whitsunday, Whitsunday. Mackay was held by the Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), Labor Party for all but five years from 1915 to 2024. Labor's dominance in the seat began in 1915 when it was won by William Forgan Smith, who served as Premier of Queensland from 1932 to 1942.
