Queen Of Peace Cathedral, Long Xuyên
The Queen of Peace Cathedral (), also called Regina Pacis Cathedral or Long Xuyên Cathedral, is a religious building that is located in Long Xuyen, capital city of the province of An Giang in the Mekong Delta region in the Southeast Asian country of Vietnam. The Cathedral follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother church of the Diocese of Long Xuyên (''Dioecesis Longxuyensis'' or ''Giáo phận Long Xuyên'') which was created in 1960 by the bull ''Christi Mandata'' of Pope John XXIII. It was formally consecrated in 1974. The façade of the Cathedral features a large statue dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a 55-meter-tall tower. Long Xuyên
Long Xuyên (), formally named Thủ Đông Xuyên, is the capital city of An Giang province, in the Mekong Delta region of south-western Vietnam. History In 1789, a group of explorers established a small outpost in the Tam Khe canal, naming it Dong Xuyen. Soon after, a marketplace was created and named Long Xuyên, but by the 1860s the area became better known for the Long Xuyen market than by the official outpost's name. From 1877, the reach of Long Xuyên grew as the city's administration became responsible for an increasing number of neighborhoods and wards. An Giang is a province of Vietnam. It is located in the Mekong Delta, in the country's southwestern part. Geography An Giang is located in the upper reaches of the Mekong Delta. The Hậu Giang and Tiền Giang branches of the Mekong River are the province's dominant geographical features. Pope John XXIII (born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli; 25 November 18813 June 1963) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 28 October 1958 until his death on 3 June 1963.
