Queen's College (Barbados)
Queen's College is a public secondary school in Barbados that was established in 1883. It is a multi-racial school with students drawn from a wide cross-section of the Barbadian community. It comprises eleven departments in which approximately thirty-three subject areas are taught. Annually a high percentage of Queen's College graduates enter universities in the West Indies, Great Britain, Canada and the United States. History Queen's College was established as a result of the recommendation of an Education Commission whose report suggested that Barbados required a first grade school for girls similar to that in the top educational institutions in Great Britain. The school commenced operations at Constitution Road in Bridgetown on 29 January 1883 with thirty-three female students. Their ages ranged from three to nineteen. Jeena Chatrani
Jeena Chatrani is a Barbadian painter. Her portrait of Barbados National Hero, Garfield Sobers is held in the collection of the Cricket Legends of Barbados and her paintings of sea turtles, including an exhibition of the paintings held at the Embassy of Argentina in Barbados, has raised funds for sea turtle conservation. Education Chatrani was educated at St Gabriel's Primary, Queen's College (Barbados), the Barbados Community College and the University of Toronto (Canada). A school is the educational institution (and, in the case of in-person learning, the building) designed to provide learning environments for the teaching of students, usually under the direction of teachers. Marion Williams (economist)
Marion Vernese Williams GCM, is a Barbadian economist, banker, accountant and diplomat. She is a recipient of the Gold Crown of Merit. Early life and education Williams was born Marion Mottley, the daughter of two Barbadian teachers, Rudolph and Cledlene Mottley. She was educated at St George's Primary School, St Michael's School, and from the age of 12 at Queen's College. She earned a degree in Economics in 1968 from the University of the West Indies, and later a Master's in Economics as the first postgraduate in the field at the university's Cave Hill campus. Elizabeth Thompson (Barbados)
Henrietta Elizabeth Thompson, widely known as Liz Thompson (born 22 November 1961) is a Barbadian lawyer, politician and diplomat whose work has included sustainable energy policy. While an elected Member of Parliament representing the Barbados Labour Party for the St. James South constituency from 1994 to 2008. Dame Olga Patricia Symmonds, GCM, DBE (18 October 1925 - 27 May 2020), best known as Patricia Symmonds, was a Barbadian politician, member of the Senate of Barbados and a former teacher. Monica Skeete
Monica Skeete (née Martineau; 23 October 1923 – 1997) was a Grenadian poet, writer and teacher. Her work was first published in the Barbadian literary magazine ''BIM'' in 1946. Her 1978 collection of short stories, ''Time Out'', was published by Nelson Caribbean in their Authors of the Caribbean series, to support a growing educational market for Caribbean literature. Other short stories were anthologised in several publications. She also wrote novels. Much of her career was spent as a history teacher at Queen's College, Barbados. She died in 1997. Mia Mottley
Mia "Ma" Amor Mottley, (born 1 October 1965) is a Barbadian politician and attorney who has served as the eighth prime minister of Barbados since 2018 and as Leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) since 2008. Mottley is the first woman to hold either position. Dame Billie Antoinette Miller, DA, OCC (born 8 January 1944) is a Barbadian politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister. Miller is a member of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP). Dame Sandra Prunella Mason (born 17 January 1949) is a Barbadian politician, lawyer, and diplomat who is serving as the first president of Barbados since 2021. Daphne Joseph-Hackett
Daphne Joseph-Hackett (also known as Miss Hackett 1915–1988) was a Bajan teacher, actor and theatre producer. Her contributions to the development of the arts in Barbados were recognized with the Order of Barbados's Silver Service Star.
