Qu'Appelle (territorial Electoral District)
Qu'Appelle was a territorial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of North-West Territories, Canada. The riding was created as a single member electoral district by royal proclamation in 1883. In 1885 the riding was mandated to return two members to the Assembly (elected by block voting). In 1888 the riding was split into North Qu'Appelle and South Qu'Appelle. The redistribution was caused by the ''North-West Representation Act 1880'' passing through the Parliament of Canada. Robert Crawford (Canadian Politician)
Robert Crawford (11 August 1834 – 22 September 1897) was a Scottish-born Canadian politician. He served on the 1st Council of the Northwest Territories for Qu'Appelle from 1886 to 1888. Crawford was born in Port Glasgow, the son of Andrew Crawford. After receiving his education at Greenock, he came to Canada in 1849. He initially farmed at the Island of Montreal, but would later gain employment with the Hudson's Bay Company as a clerk in 1854. He earned a commission in 1867 as Chief Trader at Lindsay, Ontario, then worked as Chief Trader or Factor at Nipigon, Ontario, Red Rock, Ontario and Fort Chimo until 1877 when he retired. He moved to Brockville, Ontario where he lived until 1882, when he moved west to Indian Head, North West Territories. At Indian Head he operated a general store, Crawford & Robinson. Levi Thompson
Levi ( ; ) was, according to the Book of Genesis, the third of the six sons of Jacob and Leah (Jacob's third son), and the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Levi (the Levites, including the Kohanim) and the great-grandfather of Aaron, Moses and Miriam. Certain religious and political functions were reserved for the Levites. Most scholars view the Torah as projecting the origins of the Levites into the past to explain their role as landless cultic functionaries.
