QOAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The Quebec–Ontario Athletic Association ice hockey tournament was an annual conference championship held between member teams. History Early years In 1902, three colleges reached an agreement and formed the first collegiate ice hockey conference in Canada. McGill, Queen's and Toronto arranged to play one another on a consistent annual basis to determine which among them was the best college team. At the time, all three continued to participate in other senior leagues but this was the first formal differentiation for college programs. At the start of the conference, a provision was made for a playoff to determine the conference champions but only if there was a tie at the top of the standings. The Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union (CIAU) continued as a three-team circuit for several years until Laval–Montreal joined in 1907. U Sports Men's Ice Hockey Championship
The U Sports Men's Ice Hockey Championship, is a Canadian university ice hockey tournament conducted by U Sports, and determines the men's national champion. The tournament involves the champions from each of Canada's four regional sports conferences. The David Johnston University Cup is awarded to the winners. The UNB Reds are the current champions for the 2022–23 season. The Alberta Golden Bears hold the record of 16 championship wins, as well as the record of 24 championship final appearances. The Toronto Varsity Blues hold the record of 5 consecutive championship trophy wins, from 1969 through 1973, but have not returned to the tournament since 1993, when they suffered the second most lopsided loss in a UCup final, 12–1. The Ontario University Athletics ice hockey tournament is an annual conference championship held between member teams. The winner receives an automatic bid to the U Sports men's ice hockey championship. History Four division league In 1997, the OUAA changes its name to Ontario University Athletics (OUA). Coinciding with the rebranding was a change to the playoff format. The OUA used the same qualifications as the OUAA had; the four division winners received byes into the quarterfinal round while the second- and third-place teams met in the first round. History After the realignment of the Quebec–Ontario Athletic Association, Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Ottawa-St. Lawrence Conference in 1971, the Quebec Universities Athletic Association was born. The league began with 8 teams and, despite the name, one was located in Ontario ( Royal Military College). The inaugural postseason tournament included four teams with all games being single-elimination. The league began to contract almost immediately when Montreal suspended play after just one season. RMC left after the second year and, although they were replace by Macdonald, that reprieve lasted for just one year. The conference briefly included a quarterfinal round but, with both Macdonald and Sherbrooke leaving after 1974, the conference abandoned that format. History After the realignment of the Quebec–Ontario Athletic Association, Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Ottawa-St. Lawrence Conference in 1971, the Ontario University Athletic Association was born. The league began with 14 teams arranged into four divisions .The inaugural postseason tournament invited eight teams with the top four from each division automatically qualifying for the playoffs. The Carleton Ravens men's ice hockey team is an active ice hockey program representing the Carleton Ravens athletic department of the Carleton University. The team was organized at least as far back as 1949, playing then at the intermediate level. The team was previously dormant for over 30 years, however, the program has been continually active since 2008. History Carleton was one of several Canadian universities who were searching for a conference to call after World War II. The Ravens banded together with several nearby teams to form the Ottawa–St. Lawrence Conference (OSLC), including the second team from McGill. Carleton withdrew from play in 1951 but returned the following year, spending another three years in the league before withdrawing again in 1955. The Waterloo Warriors men's ice hockey team is an active ice hockey program representing the Waterloo Warriors athletic department of the University of Waterloo. The McMaster Marauders men's ice hockey team (formerly the McMaster Marlins) was an ice hockey team representing the McMaster Marauders athletics program of McMaster University. McMaster previous fielded a team off-and-on for over 80 years, winning the inaugural University Cup in 1963. History McMaster began its ice hockey program in 1902, playing first at the intermediate level. The team remained in the second tier of Canadian college hockey for several years but saw little success. After returning following the end of World War I, McMaster found itself mired at the bottom of the standings and decided to change tack.
