The Prix de l'Indochine (1914, 1920–1938) was a French colonial art prize established, originally as a one-off prize in 1910, and awarded 1914, by , Gouverneur général of Indochina. Charles Fouqueray obtained le prix Indochine 1914. From 1925 the prize was associated with the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine. Winners Subsequent winners included Victor Tardieu (1920), Paul Jouve (1921), Antoine Ponchin (1922), Jean Bouchaud (1924), Jules Besson (1925), Paul-Émile Legouez (1926), Raymond Virac (1927), Henri Dabadie (1928), Lucien Lièvre (1929), Louis Rollet (1930), Évariste Jonchère (1932), Jean Despujols (1936) and Louis Bate (1938). Abd-el-Tif Prize
The Prix Abd-el-Tif (Abd-el-Tif prize) was a French art prize that was awarded annually from 1907–1961. It was modelled on the Prix de Rome, a scholarship that enabled French artists to stay in Rome. The award was devised in 1907 by Léonce Bénédite, curator of the Museum of Luxembourg and Charles Jonnart, governor-general of French Algeria. The prize comprised a bursary and a year's free stay at the Villa Abd-el-Tif in Algiers, a state-owned institution for the study of Islamic art. Each year's prize winners were chosen by the Society of French Orientalist Painters. Villa Abd-el-Tif
The Villa Abd-el-Tif, also known as ''la Villa Medicis algérienne'', is a Moorish villa located in Algiers, Algeria. It is notable for having been set up in 1907 in emulation of the French Academy in Rome, the Villa Medici. It was, until 1962, home to the laureates of the Abd-el-Tif prize who were offered bursaries to continue their studies for two years in Algeria. Abandoned after the independence of the country, it was classified as a historical monument in 1967 and restored before reopening in 2008. It now houses the headquarters of the ' (AARC). Unlike the Villa Médicis in Rome there was no permanent French director, the artists had to organize the villa's activities in Algeria as part of the bursary conditions.Élisabeth Cazenave. Louis Robert Bate (10 October 1898, in Bordeaux – 1948 in Da Lat) was a French sculptor, as was his wife Juliette Briet-Bate. Jean Despujols
Jean Despujols ( Salles en Gironde 19 March 1886-Shreveport, 1965) was a French, later naturalised American, painter. He was a pupil of Paul Quinsac at the école des Beaux-Arts of Bordeaux. In 1914 he won the Prix de Rome for painting but the outbreak of World War I suspended the French residencies at the villa Médicis. He had his stay in Rome after the war with his fellow painter Jean Dupas. His associations with America began in 1924-1936 as a teacher of the American art students sent to study at the École des Beaux-Arts de Fontainebleau. In 1936, he won the Prix de l'Indochine, and was selected by the Grand Conseil Economique of French Indochina to undertake a tour of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos painting and drawing what he saw. Henri Dabadie
Henri Célestin Louis Dabadie (1 December 1867, Pau - 19 October 1949, Saint-Mandé) was a French landscape and Orientalist painter. Biography He was a student of Jules-Élie Delaunay and Henri Michel-Lévy. After completing his studies, he devoted himself to Impressionistic landscape painting; primarily in Brittany. He alo painted harbor scenes in Rotterdam and Hamburg. From 1894, he was a regular exhibitor at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français. He was awarded a third-class medal in 1895 and a second-class medal in 1901.
