Prince Louis Of Anhalt-Köthen
Louis of Anhalt-Köthen (b. Köthen, 25 September 1778 - d. Köthen, 16 September 1802) was a German prince of the House of Ascania. He was the third son of Karl George Lebrecht, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen, and his wife Louise Charlotte, daughter of Frederick, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Life Starting in 1798 he was a Major in the King's Regiment in Danish service, where he received his military training. In 1801, he renounced to the Danish service and went into the Prussian service. The death of his brother Karl William in 1793 made Louis the next in line to inherit Köthen, preceded only by his older brother Augustus Christian Frederick. His early death prevented his eventual inheritance of Köthen, but his son Louis Augustus succeeded his uncle in Anhalt-Köthen when he died ten years later. House Of Ascania
The House of Ascania (german: Askanier) was a dynasty of German rulers. It is also known as the House of Anhalt, which refers to its longest-held possession, Anhalt. The Ascanians are named after Ascania (or Ascaria) Castle, known as ''Schloss Askanien'' in German, which was located near and named after Aschersleben. The castle was the seat of the County of Ascania, a title that was later subsumed into the titles of the princes of Anhalt. History The earliest known member of the house, Esiko, Count of Ballenstedt, first appears in a document of 1036. He is assumed to have been a grandson (through his mother) of Odo I, Margrave of the Saxon Ostmark. From Odo, the Ascanians inherited large properties in the Saxon Eastern March. Esiko's grandson was Otto, Count of Ballenstedt, who died in 1123. Karl George Lebrecht of Anhalt-Köthen ( Köthen, 15 August 1730 – Semlin, 17 October 1789), was a German prince of the House of Ascania and ruler of the principality of Anhalt-Köthen. He was the second (but eldest surviving) son of Augustus Louis, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen, by his second wife Christine Johanna Emilie, daughter of Erdmann II, Count of Promnitz-Pless. Life As a young prince, Karl George Lebrecht served briefly in the Danish army (1750–51) and, from November 1751, in the Prussian army. In 1755, he inherited Anhalt-Köthen after the death of his father. Karl George Lebrecht was created a knight of the Order of the Black Eagle in 1780 and in 1787 was elevated to the rank of ''Generalfeldmarschall''. During the Turkish Wars of the 1780s he contracted a fever and died in Semlin (now Zemun) near Belgrade. Augustus Christian Frederick of Anhalt-Köthen ( Köthen, 18 November 1769 – Schloss Geuz, 5 May 1812), was a German prince of the House of Ascania, ruler of the principality of Anhalt-Köthen, and from 1806 the first "Duke of Anhalt-Köthen." Louis I, Grand Duke of Hesse (14 June 1753 in Prenzlau – 6 April 1830 in Darmstadt) was ''Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt'' (as ''Louis X'') and later the first ''Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine''. Louis was the son of Louis IX, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, and succeeded his father in 1790. He presided over a significant increase in territory for Hesse-Darmstadt during the imperial reorganizations of 1801-1803, most notably the Duchy of Westphalia, hitherto subject to the Archbishop of Cologne.
