''Play'' is an album by the American rapper Doug E. Fresh, released in 1995. It contains production from Doug E. Fresh, Frankie Cutlass, and Todd Terry. The album peaked at No. 81 on the ''Billboard'' Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, but several singles—"Where's da Party At?", "Freaks", "Hands in the Air", and "I-ight"—made it to the Hot Rap Singles chart. Critical reception The ''Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph'' considered the album to be "reminiscent of a time when house parties took place in basements, with blue lights in the sockets and where a hundred bodies danced in harmony to Sugarhill Gang tunes." Gee Street Records
Gee Street Records was a British hip hop record label started by Jon Baker in 1985. The label's name came from its original location, a converted warehouse on Gee Street (off Old Street) in London, EC1. Between 1980 and 1984, label head Baker lived in New York City. After returning to London in 1984, he became a hip-hop promoter, and in 1985 opened Gee Street Records and began releasing white-label dance and hip-hop records. Many of these broke new ground. The label developed a roster of prominent domestic UK acts, including DJ Richie Rich, Outlaw Posse, and Stereo MC's, and US acts, including P.M. Dawn, Doug E. Fresh, Gravediggaz, and New Kingdom. Todd Norton Terry (born April 18, 1967) is an American DJ, record producer and remixer in the genre of house music. Musical career Todd Terry was influential in moving House music beyond the early Chicago house sound of 1984–86.
