Peter Morris (baseball)
Peter R. Morris (January 1, 1854 – December 9, 1884) was a 19th-century Welsh baseball player. He played in a single game for the Union Association's Washington Nationals on May 14, 1884. Until 2007, little was known about Morris before a writer of the same name discovered biographical information about him. Career Morris played in one major league game in his career. This came on May 14, 1884, as the shortstop for the Washington Nationals of the Union Association. In the game, he recorded no hits in three at-bats and had three assists and an error in the field. Early knowledge All that was originally known about Morris came from an initial listing in ''The Baseball Encyclopedia'', first published in 1969, for a player known as "P. Morris". This player was said to have been born in Rockford, Illinois. This entry, with the Rockford birthplace and the lack of a first name, persisted in the ''Total Baseball'' books of later vintage. Peter Morris (born 8 November 1943 in Stockbridge) is an English former professional footballer and manager. Peter Morris (born 9 November 1973) is an American playwright, television writer and critic, best known for his work in British theatre. Biography Morris was born in Philadelphia and educated at The Haverford School and Yale University, graduating in 1997. He then studied at Somerville College, Oxford on a grant from the British Academy where he was active with OUDS as a writer and performer. Morris' plays are noteworthy for their willingness to address difficult political topics, including the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse in ''Guardians'' and the murder of James Bulger in "The Age of Consent". Peter Frederick Morris (born 29 July 1932) is a former Australian politician. Morris was born in Sydney and was an alderman on the Newcastle City Council from 1968 to 1974. He won the House of Representatives seat of Shortland in 1972. He was appointed Minister for Transport in the first Hawke Ministry in March 1983. In December 1984, he assumed the additional portfolio of aviation. In 1987, he became Minister for Resources and then was briefly Minister for Housing and Aged Care in early 1988. In February 1988, he became Minister for Transport and Communications Support, but was appointed to Cabinet as Minister for Industrial Relations in September 1988. After the 1990 election he was not re-elected to the ministry, due to the formalisation of Labor's faction system and the fact that he did not belong to a faction. Sir Peter John Morris, AC, FRS, FMedSci, FRCP, FRCS (17 April 1934 – 29 October 2022) was an Australian surgeon and Nuffield professor of surgery at the University of Oxford. Morris was President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, founder of the Oxford Transplant Centre and director of the Centre for Evidence in Transplantation at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. A lifelong love of baseball led him to membership in the Society for American Baseball Research, where he became an active member of the Biographical Committee, researching the lives of early major league baseball players. Morris is a highly respected baseball researcher, and is often interviewed or cited by major media outlets such as National Public Radio.
