Patrick Peter Sullivan (22 February 1885 – 15 February 1933)Dates peat the Lambiek Comiclopedia was an Australian-American cartoonist, pioneer animator, and film producer best known for producing the first ''Felix the Cat'' silent cartoons. Early life Sullivan was born in Paddington, New South Wales, the second son of Patrick Sullivan, an immigrant from Ireland and his Sydney-born wife Margaret, ''née'' Hayes. Around 1909, Sullivan left Australia and spent a few months in London, England, before moving to the United States around 1910. He worked as assistant to newspaper cartoonist William Marriner and drew four strips of his own. When Marriner died in 1914, Sullivan joined the new animated cartoon studio set up by Raoul Barré. In 1915, Sullivan was fired by Barre for general incompetence. Hugh Raymond McCrae OBE (4 October 1876 – 17 February 1958) was an Australian writer, noted for his poetry. Life and career McCrae was born in Melbourne, the son of the Australian author George Gordon McCrae and grandson of the painter and diarist Georgiana McCrae. Originally he trained as an architect, but later took up drawing, writing and acting, settling eventually in Sydney and later in the New South Wales town of Camden. His works are notable for a sense of lightness and delicacy, and he produced, in addition to a volume of memoirs, a considerable body of verse, and a light operetta, an edition of his grandmother's journal, and a volume of prose pieces. Otto James Messmer (August 16, 1892 – October 28, 1983) was an American animator known for his work on the Felix the Cat cartoons and comic strip produced by the Pat Sullivan studio. The extent of Messmer's role in the creation and popularity of Felix is a matter of ongoing dispute, particularly as he only laid his claim to the character after the death of Sullivan, who until that time had received the credit. Early life Messmer was born August 16, 1892, in West Hoboken, New Jersey (now Union City). He attended Holy Family Parochial School. He had a love of vaudeville and the entertainment industry instilled in him by his parents and teachers beginning at a young age. Rudy Zamora
Joaquin Rudolfo Zamora (March 26, 1910 – July 29, 1989) was a Mexican-American animator and a prolific animation director. His credits include ''The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show'', ''The Jetsons'', ''The Smurfs'', ''The Biskitts'', ''Peanuts'', and many others. Career Zamora was born in Mexico City, Mexico, but raised in the United States. As a young adult, he read a help wanted ad in the local newspaper seeking a male animator at Pat Sullivan's studio. Despite Zamora having no prior experience in the field, he was intrigued and applied. His test entailed tracing a photo of ''Felix the Cat'', and Zamora was hired after placing second among three men. Zamora was still employed at Pat Sullivan's in 1928. He was hired as an inbetweener at Fleischer Studios in 1930, and eventually became an animator there. Shamus Culhane described Zamora as "the star" among the new batch of animators at Fleischer.
