Przevalski's Finch
Przevalski's finch (''Urocynchramus pylzowi''), Przewalski's finch or Przevalski's pinktail, is an unusual passerine bird endemic to the mountains of central-west China. The species is named after Mikhail Pyltsov, the Russian explorer who accompanied Nikolai Przhevalsky on the expedition in which specimens of the bird were collected. Its taxonomic affinities were unclear for a long time, giving rise to other common names, the pink-tailed bunting and the Przewalski's rosefinch. In 2000 it was proposed that it should in fact be regarded neither as a finch nor a bunting, but as the only member of the family Urocynchramidae, something that had been originally proposed in the German ornithological literature as long ago as 1918 by Janusz von Domaniewski, and also by Wolters in 1979. Domaniewski
Janusz Witold Domaniewski (30 April 1891 – 15 March 1954) was a Polish ornithologist and conservationist. He was a curator at the Warsaw zoological museum and was involved in the establishment of a nature preserve in the Tatra Mountains, Tatra mountains. Life and work Domaniewski was born in Kraków, Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and made visits to Zakopane both with family and during his studies. In 1921 he moved to live in Zakopane where his wife Irena was to recover from a lung illness and returned to Warsaw in 1930 to serve at the museum. In 1949 he returned to Zakopane, living there until his death. Domaniewski wrote extensively about hunting and the fauna of the Tatra mountains. Passeroidea
Passerida is, under the Sibley-Ahlquist taxonomy, one of two parvorders contained within the suborder Passeri (standard taxonomic practice would place them at the rank of infraorder). While more recent research suggests that its sister parvorder, Corvida, is not a monophyletic grouping, the Passerida as a distinct clade are widely accepted. Systematics and phylogeny The Passerida quite certainly consist of the 3 ''major'' subclades outlined by Sibley & Ahlquist (1990). However, their content has been much revised. Long-tailed Rosefinch
The Siberian long-tailed rosefinch (''Carpodacus sibiricus'') is a species of finch of the family Fringillidae. It is found in Japan, Kazakhstan, North Korea, South Korea, and Russia. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, and temperate grassland. It is a very rare vagrant to Europe, but like several related Asiatic rosefinches, is reasonably frequent in the cage bird trade, so many records have been considered to relate to escapes.
