Princess Marie Amelie Of Baden
Princess Marie Amelie of Baden (Marie Amelie Elisabeth Caroline; 11 October 1817 – 17 October 1888) was the youngest daughter of Charles, Grand Duke of Baden and Stéphanie de Beauharnais. In 1843, she married the Scottish nobleman William Hamilton, Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale. They became the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton upon the death of William's father in 1852. Their only daughter Mary married the future Albert I, Prince of Monaco and was the mother of Louis II. Princess Marie Amelie was a cousin of Napoleon III of France, as well as a friend of his and his wife's, Empress Eugénie. She often accompanied the couple at official events, and provided them lodging when they visited her outside France. William Alexander Archibald Hamilton, 11th Duke of Hamilton and 8th Duke of Brandon (19 February 1811 – 8 July 1863) styled Earl of Angus and Arran before 1819 and Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale between 1819 and 1852, was a Scottish nobleman and the Premier Peer of Scotland. Biography Hamilton was the son of Alexander Hamilton, 10th Duke of Hamilton and Susan Euphemia Beckford, daughter of English novelist William Beckford. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He was Knight Marischal of Scotland from 1846 and Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire from 1852 until his death. At the Mannheim Palace, on 23 February 1843, he married Princess Marie Amelie of Baden, daughter of the Grand Duke Charles of Baden and Stéphanie de Beauharnais, the adopted daughter of Napoleon I. Princess Marie of Baden (''Marie Amalie''; 20 November 1834, in Karlsruhe – 21 November 1899, in Amorbach) was the third daughter and seventh child of Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden (1790–1852) and his wife Princess Sophie of Sweden (1801–65). She was Princess of Leiningen through her marriage with Ernst Leopold, 4th Prince of Leiningen. Family Princess Marie was born on 20 November 1834, in Karlsruhe as Marie Amalie, Princess and Margravine of Baden. She was the third daughter and seventh child of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden and Princess Sophie Wilhelmine of Sweden. Marie’s father, Grand Duke Leopold, descended from a morganatic branch of the Baden family (his mother was Louise Caroline of Hochberg, a noblewoman) and thus did not have rights to a princely status or the sovereign rights of the House of Zähringen of Baden. Marie, Duchess of Anhalt (née Princess Sophie Marie of Baden; 26 July 1865 – 29 November 1939) was the wife and consort of Friedrich II, Duke of Anhalt. She was the last Duchess of Anhalt as German royal and noble titles were abolished in 1919 during the Weimar Republic. Biography Princess Sophie Marie Luise Amelie Josephine of Baden was born on 26 July 1865 to Prince William of Baden and Princess Maria Maximilianovna of Leuchtenberg. Her paternal grandparents were Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden and Princess Sophie of Sweden. Margrave Wilhelm of Baden (8 April 1792 in Karlsruhe – 11 October 1859 in Karlsruhe) was the second son of Karl Friedrich, Grand Duke of Baden and his second wife, Luise Karoline, Baroness Geyer von Geyersberg (26 May 1768 – 23 July 1820), the daughter of Lt. Col. Baron Ludwig Heinrich Philipp Geyer von Geyersberg and his wife, Countess Maximiliana Christiane von Sponeck. Because his marriage to Luise was considered by the House of Baden as morganatic, Wilhelm, for a time, had no succession rights to the Grand Duchy. For most of his life he was a part of the military, notably achieving the rank of colonel and commanding the Baden brigade in the Grande Armée during the French invasion of Russia. Frederick II (; 19 August 185621 April 1918) was the Duke of Anhalt from 1904 until 1918. Early life He was born in Dessau in 1856, he was the second son of Hereditary Prince Frederick of Anhalt-Dessau and his wife Princess Antoinette of Saxe-Altenburg. His father succeeded as Duke of Anhalt on 22 May 1871 and Frederick became heir apparent and Hereditary Prince following the death of his elder brother Leopold on 2 February 1886. Marriage Frederick was married on 2 July 1889 at Karlsruhe to Princess Marie of Baden (26 July 186529 November 1939).
