Prince Edward—Hastings was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that existed in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 2015. Its population in 2006 was 113,227. It was redistributed between Bay of Quinte electoral district and Hastings—Lennox and Addington electoral district as a result of the Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012. History The electoral district was created in 1966 from parts of Hastings South, Hastings—Frontenac, Northumberland, and Prince Edward—Lennox ridings. It consisted of the County of Prince Edward, the Townships of Rawdon and Sidney (excluding the City of Belleville) in the County of Hastings, and the Townships of Brighton, Cramahe, Murray and Seymour in the County of Northumberland. The electoral district was abolished in 1976 when it was redistributed between Northumberland and Prince Edward ridings, but Prince Edward riding was renamed "Prince Edward—Hastings" in 1978 before an election was held. Northumberland was a federal and provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1968 and from 1987 to 2003, and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2007. This riding was first created in 1914 from Northumberland East and Northumberland West ridings. It initially consisted of the county of Northumberland, excluding the township of Monaghan South. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Background and previous attempts at reform Prior to 2012, the redistribution rules for increasing the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada was governed by section 51 of the ''Constitution Act, 1867'', as last amended in 1985.
