The Apertura 2009 season (officially known as ''Torneo Apertura 2009'') was the twenty-third tournament of the Primera División de Fútbol Profesional since its establishment of an Apertura and Clausura format, and the 41st overall. FAS won the tournament for the 17th time in history, defeating Águila in the final with a 3–2 victory in extra time. Isidro Metapán were the defending champions, having won their 3rd title the previous season and being the back to back champions. Format A total of 10 teams contested the league, with none getting relegated (relegation only occurs in Clausura tournaments). The season began on August 14, 2009 and concluded on December 20, 2009. The 10 teams of the Primera División played 18 matches, playing each team twice (home and away). The top four teams qualified directly to the semifinals. The Primera División de Fútbol Profesional de El Salvador (First Division of Professional Football of El Salvador), more commonly known as La Liga Mayor or La Primera, also known as Liga Pepsi for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football, football league in El Salvador. It was established in 1947, and in 2011 had 10 clubs. Initially the league was run as a year-long tournament, but since 1998 there are two tournaments each year, much like in many other football leagues in the Americas. The Apertura season runs from August to December, while the Clausura season runs from February to July. Of the 56 teams to have competed in the league, C.D. Estadio Óscar Quiteño is a multi-purpose stadium in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Santa Ana, El Salvador. Eduardo Santana (November 29, 1958 – October 19, 2023) was a Brazilian football player and manager. He last coached C.D. Dragón in the Segunda División de Fútbol Salvadoreño of El Salvador.
