President's Cup (Maldives)
President's Cup (known before 2005 as the National Championship) is said to be the first tournament in the Maldives and also the birth of Football in the Maldives. The very first tournament was held in 1946, with 2006 seeing its 50th edition. The first edition ended with Customs and Naadhee Ahthamadhun both sharing the trophy. The current format of the President's Cup allows only the top four teams of the Dhivehi League to participate. Club Valencia
Club Valencia is a Republic of the Maldives, Maldivian football (soccer), football club based in Malé, Maldives. Nicknamed ''The Sunrisers'', the club competes in the Dhivehi Premier League, the top tier of Football in Maldives, Maldivian football. History The notion of establishing a football club named Club Valencia arose in the late 1970s from the players of blue and gold teams participating in the Junior Football Pool organized by National Sports Academy. The first two names proposed to the government for approval as the name of the club were Youth Recreation Movement and Juvenile Valencia Atletico; both were rejected. The third name, Club Valencia was then approved by the government. The chairman of the club is Mr. Adheel Jaleel who was elected to the post in 2015. 2021–22 President's Cup (Maldives)
The 2021–22 President's Cup was the 68th season of the President's Cup. Teams All teams playing in the 2021–22 Dhivehi Premier League. Format Eight teams competing engaged in a round-robin tournament, each team played once against the others. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the league table by points gained, then goal difference, then goals scored and then their head-to-head record. The top 2 teams qualified for the Final. The 2016 President's Cup is the 66th season of the President's Cup. Maziya Sports and Recreation Club are the defending champions, having beaten New Radiant Sports Club in last season's final. This is the second tournament under its current tournament format. Participating teams Final draw Venues Background Format The first round, or group stage, was a competition between the 6 teams divided among two groups of three, where each group engaged in a round-robin tournament within itself. The two highest ranked teams in each group advanced to the knockout stage. Teams were awarded three points for a win and one for a draw. When comparing teams in a group over-all result came before head-to-head. For any match after the group stage, a draw after 90 minutes of regulation time was followed by two 15 minute periods of extra time to determine a winner. Maziya Sports and Recreation Club is a Maldivian professional football club based in Malé. They compete in the Dhivehi Premier League, the country's top division. The club was formed in 1996 and was promoted to the first division for the first time in 2006. History The club was founded on 23 January 1996. The club is one of the most successful clubs in Maldives, having won the top tier domestic league thrice in 2016, 2019–20, and 2020–21. In the 2022 AFC Cup groups-stages, Maziya witnessed a 1–0 defeat to Bashundhara Kings, but won their second match against Gokulam Kerala.
