Potomac-class Frigate
The ''Raritan'' or ''Potomac''-class frigate was a series of nine heavy frigates operated by the United States Navy during most of the 19th century. The ships were intended to be constructed slowly for the sake of build quality, and entered service between the 1820s and 1860s due to a lack of funding. The design was based on the prior original six frigates of the United States Navy and ''Java''-class frigates, but became outdated by the time every ship was launched. The ships served with the Navy in various conflicts during the century, most notably the Mexican-American War and American Civil War. By the end of the Civil War, four of the ships were sunk and the rest were repurposed, with the last disposed of in 1912. USS Sabine (1855)
The first USS ''Sabine'' was a sailing frigate built by the United States Navy in 1855. The ship was among the first ships to see action in the American Civil War. In 1862, a large portion of the crew were volunteers from the ''Sabine''. She was built at the New York Navy Yard. Her keel was laid in 1822, but she was not launched until 3 February 1855. Battle Of Monterrey
In the Battle of Monterrey (September 21–24, 1846) during the Mexican–American War, General Pedro de Ampudia and the Mexican Army of the North was defeated by the Army of Occupation, a force of United States Regulars, Volunteers, and Texas Rangers under the command of General Zachary Taylor. The hard-fought urban combat led to heavy casualties on both sides. The battle ended with both sides negotiating a two-month armistice and the Mexican forces being allowed to make an orderly evacuation in return for the surrender of the city. The Second Sumatran expedition was a punitive expedition by the United States United States Navy, Navy against inhabitants of the island of Sumatra. USS Columbia (1836)
The first USS ''Columbia'' of the United States Navy to be commissioned was a three-masted, wooden-hulled sailing frigate, built at the Washington Navy Yard and carrying 54 guns (an earlier USS Columbia, ''Columbia'' was destroyed during the burning of Washington in 1814 whilst it was still under construction). The First Sumatran expedition, which featured the Battle of Quallah Battoo (Aceh: Kuala Batèë, Indonesian: Kuala Batu) in 1832, was a punitive expedition by the United States Navy against the village of Kuala Batee, presently a subdistrict in Southwest Aceh Regency.
