Porro
The porro is a musical style and dance from the Caribbean region of Colombia. It is a Colombian cumbia rhythm that developed into its own subgenre. It was originally a folkloric expression from the Sinú River area that evolved into a ballroom dance. It is played mostly by brass bands or orchestras, and danced in couples. This genre influenced some of the greatest Latin American bands of the 1960s, with songs such as "Pachito E'ché" (originally from Wolfgang Alejandro Tovar García, then interpreted by Benny Moré), "Se Va el Caimán", and "Me voy pa'Cataca" (originally from José María Peñaranda, then interpreted by La Sonora Matancera.) Lucho Bermúdez
Luis Eduardo Bermúdez Acosta (January 25, 1912 – April 23, 1994) better known as Lucho Bermúdez, was a Colombian musician, composer, Arrangement, arranger, director and Performing arts, performer. He is considered to be one of the most important performers and composers of Colombian music in the 20th century. He adapted traditional Colombian musical styles such as Cumbia (Colombia), cumbia and porro into modern rhythms that would become symbols of national identity from the 1930s. His work had a substantial impact around Latin America. Cumbia
Cumbia refers to a number of musical rhythms and folk dance traditions of Latin America, generally involving musical and cultural elements from American Indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans during colonial times. Cumbia is said to have come from funeral traditions in the Afro-Colombian community. Cumbia traditionally uses three drums ('' tambora'', ' and ''llamador''), three flutes (''gaita hembra'' and ''gaito macho'', both forms of , and '' flauta de millo'') and has a or meter. The sound of cumbia can be characterized as having a simple "chu-chucu-chu" rhythm created by the guacharaca. The genre frequently incorporates brass instruments and piano. Pacho Galán (1906—1988) was a Colombian composer and band leader of several Colombian music forms. His songs include ''Boquita Sala, Rio Y Mar, Fiesta de Cumbia, Cumbia Alegre'' and '' Ay Cosita Linda'', which became one of his most famous after Nat King Cole recorded his own rendition of the song. Mario Gareña, stage name of Jesús Arturo García Peña (25 September 1932 – 25 August 2021) was a Colombian singer and composer. He was one of the most prolific singers of cumbia music and was known for the song ''Yo me llamo cumbia''. Biography Gareña was born on 25 September 1932 in Barranquilla. He started his career in 1951 and joined an orchestra in Cali. He then joined the Orquestra Sonolux in Medellín. During the 1960s, he moved to Bogotá and started a career as a singer, performing in nightclubs and appearing on television. He also appeared in the films ''Mares de pasión'' and ''Cumbia''.
