Pop! Goes The Country
''Pop! Goes the Country'' is a weekly half-hour syndicated variety country music television series that originally aired from September 7, 1974 through 1982 for a total of 234 episodes. Originally hosted by Ralph Emery, the series was recorded at the Grand Ole Opry House and featured performances by and interviews with country music singers, both established celebrities and up and coming singers and musicians. In 1980, Tom T. Hall replaced Emery as the host. The comic actor Jim Varney joined the cast in the final season, as the show retooled as a "country music club", with Varney acting in comedy sketches featuring Tom T. Hall and the show's musical guests. The show also moved from the Opry House to Opryland USA's Gaslight Theater. It is also considered as a spin-off of ''The Porter Wagoner Show''. Ralph Emery
Walter Ralph Emery (March 10, 1933 – January 15, 2022) was an American country music disc jockey, radio and television host from McEwen, Tennessee. Emery promoted numerous stars on his radio and TV shows, and was called the Dick Clark (entertainer), Dick Clark of country music. He gained national fame hosting the television syndication, syndicated television music series, ''Pop! Goes the Country'', from 1974 to 1980 and the nightly The Nashville Network, Nashville Network television program, ''Nashville Now'', from 1983 to 1993. From 2007 to 2015, Emery hosted the weekly program, ''Ralph Emery Live'', on RFD-TV, a satellite and cable television channel devoted to rural American culture. Morna Anne Murray (born June 20, 1945) is a retired Canadian country, pop and adult contemporary music singer who has sold over 55 million album copies worldwide during her over 40-year career. Murray has won four Grammys including the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1979.
