Polish Superliga (men's Handball)
The Polish Superliga, officially known as the Orlen Superliga due to its sponsorship by Orlen, is the top men's handball league in Poland. It is currently a 14 teams league, played from September to May. The competition was founded in 1956 under the name ''I Liga'' and changed its name to ''Ekstraklasa'' in 1998. Since 2010, it is named ''Superliga''. Zagłębie Lubin (men's Handball)
MKS Zagłębie Lubin is a men's handball club from Lubin, Poland, that plays in the Superliga. History The club was founded in 1967 under the name Górnik Lubin. His first coach was Szymon Kanigowski. The team reached the Polish top division for the first time at the end of the 1990/1991 season, already under the name Zagłębie Lubin. The team won the Polish Cup in the 1992/1993 season, defeating SPR Chrobry Głogów and Wybrzeże Gdańsk in the final four and drawing with KS Warszawianka. In the 1993/1994 season, the team debuted on the international cup circuit, when they were eliminated in the first round against Extran Beyne of Belgium in the EHF Cup Winners' Cup. In the 2004/2005 season, the team won the league title for the first time in its history, beating Wisła Płock in the final match (27-23; 37-32; 43-42). Kwidzyn (; ; Latin: ''Quedin''; Old Prussian: ''Kwēdina'') is a town in northern Poland on the Liwa River. With a population of 36,731, it is the capital of Kwidzyn County in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Puławy (, also written Pulawy) is a city in eastern Poland, in Lesser Poland's Lublin Voivodeship, at the confluence of the Vistula and Kurówka River, Kurówka Rivers. The 2023–24 Superliga was the 68th season of the Polish Superliga, the top men's handball league in Poland. A total of fourteen teams contested this season's league, which will begin in 30 August 2023 and will conclude in 25 or 26 May 2024. Barlinek Industria Kielce is the defending champion. Format The competition format for the 2023–24 season returns to the format last used in 2018–19 season. It consists of 14 teams each playing a total of 26 matches, half at home and half away. Then the first eight teams from the standings will be playing in the play-off, while the last six teams will be playing in the relegation round. The winner of the play-offs will earn the Polish Championship.
