Albert Pillans
Albert Alexander Pillans (25 February 1869 – 28 November 1901) was an Anglo-Ceylonese first-class cricketer. The son of Albert Pillans senior and Maria Elphinstone, he was born in British Ceylon at Dickoya in February 1869. In England, he played club cricket for Hampshire Rovers, before making his debut in first-class cricket for Hampshire against Derbyshire at Derby in the 1896 County Championship. He made two further first-class appearances that season, against Yorkshire at Harrogate and Warwickshire at Southampton. In his three matches, Pillans scored 82 runs at an average of 20.50, with a high score of 32 not out. As a bowler, he took 6 wickets at a bowling average of 25.16, with best figures of 2 for 31. He later returned to Ceylon, where he played in a minor match for Ceylon against the touring Australians in 1896. Francis Pillans
Francis Scott Pillans (1 January 1810 – 12 December 1889) was a member of the New Zealand Legislative Council from 24 January 1863 to 28 July 1873, when he was disqualified for absence. Pillans was from Edinburgh. Born in 1810, he was the fourth son of James Pillan of Myres Castle. He received his education from Edinburgh High School and finished this in Lauenburg in Germany. He arrived in Dunedin in 1849 on the ''Moultan''. He was described as a runholder and pisciculturist. James Pillans
James Pillans FRSE (1778–1864) was a Scottish classical scholar, Professor of Humanity at the University of Edinburgh, and educational reformer. He is credited with inventing the blackboard, alongside his colleague Jack Smart but more correctly was the inventor of coloured chalk. Early life The son of James Pillans, he was born at Sheriff Brae in Leith in April 1778. His father was a merchant and then a printer in Edinburgh, creating Pillans & Wilson. He was also an elder in the Anti-Burgher branch of the Scottish Secession Church, of Adam Gib, and a liberal in politics. Pillans was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh, under Alexander Adam, of whom he subsequently contributed a biography to the ''Encyclopædia Britannica''. Mathew William Pillans (born 4 July 1991) is a South African cricketer who plays for Yorkshire, having previously played for Surrey. Neville Stuart Pillans (2 May 1884 - 23 March 1964) was a South African botanist. Biography Neville Stuart Pillans was the only son of Eustace Pillans, another South African botanist.
