PiliPinas Debates 2016 – Visayas Leg
The Visayas leg of the ''PiliPinas Debates 2016'' is the second presidential debate of the 2016 Philippine elections, held at the Performing Arts Hall of the University of the Philippines in Cebu City on March 20, 2016. It was organized by COMELEC and KBP with TV5, ''Philippine Star'', and ''BusinessWorld'' as media partners. The debate was moderated by News5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes, along with panelists Ed Lingao and Lourd de Veyra of News5, Philippine Star editor-in-chief Ana Marie Pamintuan, Philippine Star associate editor Marichu Villanueva, Bloomberg TV Philippines host Atty. Tony Abad and RMN DYHP Cebu commentator Atty. Ruphil Bañoc. The program aired from 4:30pm – 10:00pm (UTC+8) due to delays caused by miscommunication between the camp of Jejomar Binay and moderator Luchi Cruz-Valdez. PiliPinas Debates 2016
''PiliPinas Debates 2016'' is a debate series administered by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) with the assistance of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas in preparation for the May 9, 2016, general election. In January 2016, the Commission on Elections confirmed that they would hold three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate. This will be the first time that the COMELEC will host debates since the 1992 elections, with ABC-5 as the host network fresh from the launch of the recently restored broadcast network on February 21 of the same year, after a 20-year rest due to Martial Law. The debates were branded as ''PiliPinas Debates 2016''. The first word is a portmanteau of ''Pili'', Filipino for "choose" and ''Pinas'', shortcut for the Philippines in Filipino. Aksyon TV (, visually rendered in all uppercase as AKSYONTV) was a Philippine free-to-air television network. It was a joint venture of NBC and TV5 Network, Inc. Miriam Palma Defensor-Santiago (June 15, 1945 – September 29, 2016) was a Filipino scholar, academic, lawyer, judge, author, stateswoman, and politician who served in all three branches of the Philippine government: judicial, executive, and legislative. She was named one of The 100 Most Powerful Women in the World in 1997 by ''The Australian''. Defensor Santiago was known for being a long-serving Senator of the Republic of the Philippines, an elected judge of the International Criminal Court, and the sole female recipient of the Philippines' highest national honor, the Quezon Service Cross. DYHP (612 AM) RMN Cebu is a radio station owned and operated by the Radio Mindanao Network. Its studios and offices are located at the RMN Broadcast Center, G/F Capitol Central Hotel and Suites, N. Ana Marie "Amy" Pamintuan is a Filipino journalist who currently serves as editor-in-chief of ''The Philippine Star''. Lourd Ernest Hanopol de Veyra (; born February 11, 1975) is a Filipino musician, emcee, poet, journalist, TV host, broadcast personality and activist who became famous as the vocalist of the Manila-based jazz rock band Radioactive Sago Project.
