Phra Khanong District
Phra Khanong (, ) is one of the Districts of Bangkok, 50 districts (Khet) of Bangkok, Thailand. Its neighbours, clockwise from north, are Suan Luang district, Suan Luang, Prawet district, Prawet, and Bang Na district, Bang Na districts of Bangkok, Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan province (across Chao Phraya River), Khlong Toei district, Khlong Toei and Watthana district, Watthana of Bangkok. Economy: There is at least one oil refinery in the district (as of the 2020s). History Phra Khanong was an amphoe of Nakhon Khuean Khan back in 1902. Nakhon Khuean Khan was renamed to Phra Pradaeng in 1914. In 1927 Phra Khanong was transferred from the then Phra Pradaeng province to Bangkok. It was once very big but it has since been split into several small districts. The districts Khlong Toei, Watthana, Suan Luang, Prawet and Bang Na were all once part of Phra Khanong. Khlong Toei District
Khlong Toei (also Klong Toey, , ) is a districts of Bangkok, district in central Bangkok, long known for its slum. It is bordered by the Chao Phraya River and contains major port facilities. It is also the site of a major market, the Khlong Toei Market. Khwaeng
A ''khwaeng'' (, ) is an administrative subdivision used in the fifty districts of Bangkok and a few other city municipalities in Thailand. Currently, there are 180 ''khwaeng'' in Bangkok. A ''khwaeng'' is roughly equivalent to a ''tambon'' in other provinces of Thailand, smaller than an ''amphoe'' (district). With the creation of the special administrative area of Bangkok in 1972 the ''tambon'' within the area of the new administrative entity was converted into ''khwaeng''.Item 17 of The common English translation for ''khwaeng'' is subdistrict. Mae Nak Phra Khanong
Mae Nak Phra Khanong (, meaning 'Lady Nak of Phra Khanong'), or simply Mae Nak (, 'Lady Nak') or Nang Nak (, 'Miss Nak'), is a well-known Thai ghost. According to local folklore the story is based on events that took place during the reign of King Rama IV. A shrine dedicated to Nak was constructed at Wat Mahabut. In 1997, the shrine was relocated to the nearby Suan Luang district of modern Bangkok. Common legend A beautiful young woman named Nak, who lived on the banks of the Phra Khanong canal, had an undying love for her husband, Mak. While Nak was pregnant, Mak was conscripted into the Thai Army and sent to war where he was seriously wounded (in some versions it is the Kengtung Wars, while others are not specific). Khmer Empire
The Khmer Empire was an empire in Southeast Asia, centered on Hydraulic empire, hydraulic cities in what is now northern Cambodia. A custom house or customs house was traditionally a building housing the offices for a jurisdictional government whose officials oversaw the functions associated with importing and exporting goods into and out of a country, such as collecting customs duty on imported goods. Khmer Language
Khmer ( ; , Romanization of Khmer#UNGEGN, UNGEGN: ) is an Austroasiatic language spoken natively by the Khmer people. This language is an official language and national language of Cambodia. The language is also widely spoken by Khmer people in Eastern Thailand and Isan, Thailand, as well as in the Southeast (Vietnam), Southeastern and Mekong Delta regions of Vietnam. Amphoe
An amphoe (sometimes also ''amphur'', , )—usually translated as "district"—is the second level administrative subdivision of Thailand. Groups of ''amphoe'' or districts make up the Provinces of Thailand, provinces, and are analogous to county, counties. The chief district officer is ''Nai Amphoe'' (). ''Amphoe'' are divided into tambon, ''tambons'', (), or sub-districts. Altogether Thailand has 928 districts, including the 50 districts of Bangkok, which are called ''Khet (country subdivision), khet'' (เขต) since the Bangkok administrative reform of 1972. The number of districts in provinces varies, from only three in the smallest provinces, up to the 50 urban districts of Bangkok. Also the sizes and population of districts differ greatly.
