Philippines Football League
The Philippines Football League (PFL) is a men's professional association football, football league in the Philippines. Sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and organized by Liga Futbol Inc., it is the country's Football in the Philippines, primary football competition. The 2024–25 Philippines Football League, 2024–25 season was contested by 10 clubs from September 28, 2024 to April 13, 2025. The league does not have a system of promotion and relegation. All PFL clubs also take part in the Copa Paulino Alcantara, the annual domestic cup competition. Founded in 2017, the PFL supplanted the Metro Manila-based United Football League (Philippines), United Football League (UFL), which was the ''de facto'' top-tier league in the country from 2009 to 2016. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is the governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in most countries and territories in Asia. The AFC was formed in 1954. It has 47 members. The Asian Ladies Football Confederation (ALFC) was the section of AFC that managed women's association football in Asia. The group was independently founded in April 1968 in a meeting involving Taiwan, British Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. In 1986, ALFC merged with AFC. The United Football League, commonly known as the UFL, was an association football league, replaced by the Philippines Football League, based in the National Capital Region of the Philippines, governed by the Football Alliance (FA) in partnership with United Football Clubs Association (UFCA). The UFL was the Philippines' primary football league. In its last 2016 United Football League (Philippines), season in 2016, it was contested by 12 clubs and operated without a system of promotion and relegation with UFL Division 2, which was discontinued. Edwin B. Gastanes (December 21, 1958 – December 24, 2024) was a Filipino lawyer and sports administrator who was general secretary of the Philippine Olympic Committee from 2019 to 2023.
