Perlis (Kedah Malay language, Kedah Malay (Perlis dialect): ''Peghelih'') is a Negeri, state of Malaysia in the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is the smallest state in Malaysia by area and population. The state borders the Thailand, Thai Provinces of Thailand, provinces of Satun province, Satun and Songkhla to the north and the Malaysian state of Kedah to the south. Perlis is the only Malaysian state that is not divided into districts, due to its small size, but it is still divided into several communes. It was called Palit () by the Siamese when it was under their influence. Perlis had a population of 227,025 as of the 2010 census. Perlis experiences a tropical monsoon climate. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail (Jawi script, Jawi: توانكو سيد سراج الدين ابن المرحوم توانكو سيد ڤوترا جمل الليل; born 17 May 1943) is the current Raja of Perlis, reigning since 2000. The Menteri Besar of Perlis or First Minister of Perlis is the head of government in the Malaysian state of Perlis. According to convention, the Menteri Besar is the leader of the majority party or largest coalition party of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly. Kangar
Kangar (Kedah Malay: ''Kangaq'') is the state capital and the largest town in Perlis, Malaysia. It has a population of 48,898 and an area of 2,619.4 ha. It is located next to the Thailand border, in the northernmost point of Peninsular Malaysia. It is situated by the Perlis River. "Amin, Amin, ya Rabiljalil" () is the anthem of Perlis, Malaysia. The lyrics are written in an admixture of Malay and Arabic. History In 1930, Syed Hamzah ibni al-Marhum Syed Safi Jamalullail, the fifth Raja of Perlis, and at the time serving as Vice President of the Perlis State Council, composed the tune to ''Amin, Amin, ya Rabiljalil.''
