People's Union (Italy)
The People's Union (, UP) was a left-wing political alliance in Italy launched on 9 July 2022 by Luigi de Magistris. History Background During a national assembly of Democracy and Autonomy (DemA) in January 2022, Luigi de Magistris, party leader and former Mayor of Naples, announced his intention to create a new coalition of left-wing parties, starting from his own party. In February, four deputies founded a sub-group at the Chamber of Deputies called "ManifestA". All of them had been elected in the 2018 general election for the Five Star Movement, a big-tent populist party, and then left the party and joined either Power to the People (PaP) or Communist Refoundation Party (PRC). Luigi De Magistris (politician)
Luigi de Magistris (born 20 June 1967) is an Italian politician and a former prosecutor. He served as mayor of Naples from 2011 to 2021, and a member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2011. He is the leader of the political formation People's Union (Italy), People's Union. Biography He started his career as a public prosecutor in 1995 and worked in Naples from 1998 to 2002. Communist Refoundation Party
The Communist Refoundation Party (, PRC) is a Communism, communist List of political parties in Italy, political party in Italy that emerged from a split of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in 1991. The party's secretary is Maurizio Acerbo, who replaced Paolo Ferrero in 2017. Armando Cossutta was the party's founder, while Fausto Bertinotti its longest-serving leader (1994–2008). Maurizio Acerbo (born 4 December 1965 in Pescara), is an Italian politician and the current Secretary of the Communist Refoundation Party. In 1984 he was elected provincial secretary of FGCI (Youth Communist Italian Federation) in Pescara. He was elected for the first time in 1985 as a counselor in the Zanni district of Pescara and later a city councilor in the same city in 1990.
